GK NewS NetworK
Srinagar, Mar 3: Newly appointed Chief Secre-tary, Muhammad Iqbal Khanday Sunday prom-ised that he will try his best to come up to the expectations of the people and rejuvenate the administrative set up for larger public cause . Speaking at an interactive session orga-nized in his honor by the Jammu and Kash-mir Hoteliers Club (JKHC) at Hotel Grand Palace here, Khanday said that expectations are very high and he will try his best to per-form as per his ability. “I know almost all the officers personally as they have worked with me in various capacities during my ser-vice career in the state. tion and the people would help my endeavor to serve the state better,” he said. Representatives of the tourism sector, trade, travel, hoteliers, civil society members and media men were present. The stakeholders while highlighting their problems expressed the hope that being a son of the soil, Khanday’s elevation to the highest administrative post in the state was an honor for everybody. BJP, PDP nexus out in open: Rana
Jammu, Mar 3: National Conference, p r o v i n c i a l president Dev-ender Singh Rana has said that extending of support by BJP to PDP-sponsored candi-date Shiban Krishan Dudha in the Legislative Council polls has vindicated NC’s stand that an “unholy political alliance” exists between BJP and PDP. In a statement issued here today, Rana said BJP has of late upped its ante for abrogation of Article 370. “This latest deal of BJP with the PDP is a quid pro quo for PDP’s assured support for

Jammu, Mar 3: Emerging as a potent threat for one of the ruling coalition candidates in the valley, the lone inde-pendent candidate in fray for one of the four seats of Leg-islative Council (LC) from Kashmir, slated for polls on March 7, has managed to garner support of Bhartiya Janta Party (BJP) indicating a tough contest ahead. The independent candi-date, Shiban Krishan Dudha will be in direct contest with three coalition candidates –Abdul Majeed Bhat (NC), Showkat Ganai (NC) and Muzaffar Parray (Congress). BJP state president Jugal Kishore Sharma today announced support of his party MLAs to Dudha. “A gen-eral consensus has emerged in the party, including the party’s state legislator group, to sup-port the candidature of Shiban Krishan Dudha, who has filed his nomination papers as an independent candidate from Valley and is not affiliated to any political party”, Sharma said in a statement. He said BJP has also
taken consideration of the fact that Dudha belongs to displaced Kashmiri Pandit community, for the cause of which the BJP has “constant-ly struggled and will continue to do so in future as well”. The party has only four MLAs in the Lower House as seven other MLAs of BJP

Srinagar/Pulwama, Mar 3: Massive protests broke out in different parts of the Valley on Sunday soon after the word about Kashmiri student being found dead in his hostel room in Hyderabad spread. Muddasir Ahmed Malla son of Ghulam Qadir Malla of Parigam Pulwama, pur-suing his doctorate at Cen-tral Institute of English and Foreign Languages (CIEFL) in Hyderabad was found
hanging in his hostel room on Saturday evening. Massive protests and clashes broke out at Pul-wama in south Kashmir and other adjoining areas as the news spread. Reports said that hun-dreds of youth raising pro-freedom slogans took to the streets and staged massive demonstrations. Mourners alleged that Muddasir was murdered. Police and para-military CRPF men swung

Srinagar, Mar 3: A Kashmiri student, Muddasir Ahmed Malla son of Ghulam Qadir Malla of Parigam Pulwama, pursuing his doctorate at Eng-lish and Foreign Languages University (EFLU) Hydera-bad was found hanging in his hostel room late Saturday eve-ning. Police termed it a case of suicide, however several of his
colleagues said that Muddasir was constantly persecuted by university administration. “He was forced to commit suicide as he was constantly
persecuted by university administration and his room mate Waseem,” Naseer Ahmad, one of his classmates told Greater Kashmir over telephone from Hyderabad. “He was being harassed by them for past more than four months,” he added. Naseer said that initially, university authorities did not pay any heed to his death. “We staged protests this morning to attract the attention of the uni-versity authorities,” he said. Naseer claimed that on Sunday evening they went to
Muddasir’s room and found a note there. “It is only police who can tell what he has writ-ten in the note,” he said. Another student Muzam-il said it is wrong to say that Muddasir was arrested for taking part in protests staged against the hanging of Muhammad Afzal Guru in
Hyderabad. “Do not portray things in such a way. It is wrong. Nobody has taken part in protests and investigations would reveal how he died,” Muzamil said. “We were being told that he had a tussle with his roommate. What has hap-pened I do not know.” Talking to Greater Kash-
mir Commissioner of Police (CP) Hyderabad, Anurag Sharma said that Muddasir had committed suicide. “This case has no connection with Hyderabad blast or Afzal Guru issue,” Sharma said and added that he had strained relations with his roommate
