even paper clips. The theme of some bookmarks may include a senti mental message from a loved one or a photo of a favorite band. In this acti vity, you will use your desktop publishing soft ware to create and design your own personalized bookmark of your playlist.

2. Use graphic images that will complement the music on your playlist.

3. Use a maximum of two fonts in the design.

2. Save the fi le as BOOKMARK.

3. Follow the Page Setup Instructi ons provided on the next page.

4. Since you will be creati ng a bookmark of your playlist, include the following:a. A ti tle that indicates the theme of the bookmark (Examples: My Playlist, My Top

10 Songs, I Luv Music)

b. A list of your favorite 10 songs and arti sts on your playlist

c. A background

d. Graphic image(s) relati ng to your playlist

e. Various shapes to complement your playlist

f. Surround your bookmark with an ornamental border (opti onal)

5. Add additi onal text and/or graphic elements to help enhance the look and appearance of your bookmark.

6. Format the size, style, and placement of the text and other elements on the document so that it projects a professional design.

7. Proofread your work carefully for accuracy, design, and format.

8. Resave the fi le.

Almost everyone today owns a cell phone. Basically, cell phones all serve the same purpose: to be in constant contact without being ti ed down

to a wired connecti on. But, the skin of a cell phone can reveal a lot more. It adds personal style to the appearance of the cell phone and tells something about the phone’s owner. Since there are many diff erent makes and models of cell phones on the market, skins come in a variety of shapes and sizes. 2. Copy and paste the rectangle and place it to the right side of the page, with the top and right edges of the rectangle touching the top and right margins as shown. Place the contents of the back of your iPhone skin within this rectangle.

3. Using the circle tool, draw a circle that measures .125 inches wide by .125 inches high. Place the circle 1.25 inches down from the top of the page and 1.625 inches over from the left -hand side of the page. Leave this area blank, as this is the front camera of the iPhone.

4. Using the rectangle tool, draw a rectangle (with rounded corners) that measures .5 inches wide by .125 inches high. Positi on the rectangle 1.25 inches down from the top of the page and 1.875 inches over from the left -hand side of the page. Leave this area blank, as this is the speaker you hold to your ear to listen to calls.

5. Using the rectangle tool, draw a rectangle that measures 2 inches wide by 3 inches high. Positi on the rectangle 1.625 inches down from the top of the page and 1.17 inches over from the left -hand side of the page. Leave this area blank, as the home screen of your iPhone will be visible here.

6. Using the circle tool, draw a circle that measures .4 inches wide by .4 inches high. Positi on the circle 5 inches down from the top of the page and 1.952 inches over from the left -hand side of the page. Leave this area blank, as this is the home butt on on the front center of the iPhone’s face.

7. Using the rectangle tool, draw a rectangle (with rounded corners) that measures .75 inches wide by .5 inches high. 1. Think of a creati ve name for your indoor sports complex and create a list of fi xtures and areas that would be included in the interior of your sports complex. For example, soccer/lacrosse fi eld, tennis court, offi ces, and so on.

2. Use ovals, rectangles, and other elements to represent diff erent fi xtures and areas of your sports complex. You must include a minimum of 15 diff erent fi xtures in your design.

3. Keep elements in proporti on with their actual size. For example, if you’re using a circle to represent a basketball hoop, the circle should appear smaller than the rectangle that represents the basketball court.

4. Carefully read through all parts included in this acti vity. Before beginning any work on your computer, use a blank sheet of paper to sketch the layout and design of the document you will be creati ng.

Floor plans are blueprints that serve as a guide when constructi ng a physical establishment and are an essenti al part of every business. They are used

when planning the fl oor layout of businesses, homes, parks, and just about any establishment that requires fi xtures and equipment. They show informati on such as the locati on of walls, windows, doors, offi ces, etc. In this acti vity, you will use your desktop publishing soft ware to create and design a fl oor plan for a new indoor sports complex.

1. Using your desktop publishing soft ware, create a new document.

2. Save the fi le as FLOORPLAN.

3. Follow the Page Setup Instructi ons provided on the next page.

4. Be sure you have sketched your fl oor plan design on paper fi rst.

5. Include the following on your fl oor plan:a. A ti tle at the top of the page that includes your sports complex name and the

words “Floor Plan”

b. Using various shapes and elements to represent each fi xture and component included in your sports complex, create your fl oor plan (Use your hand-sketched design as a guide and refer to the examples of shapes to consider using on the next page). 1. Creati ng a crossword puzzle using desktop publishing soft ware is a fairly complex procedure.

2. Since you will be dedicati ng a good deal of ti me setti ng up your document, most of the formatti ng, layout, and placement decisions are provided for you. Therefore, there are no strategies and design ti ps included for this project.

3. Carefully read through all parts included in this acti vity. Before beginning any work on your computer, use a blank sheet of paper to sketch the layout and design of the document you will be creati ng.

Go to any magazine stand, supermarket, or convenience store and you’ll realize how popular crossword puzzles are. They serve a great purpose

– they are not only an American pasti me, they help teach you things that you may have never known. In this acti vity, you will use your desktop publishing soft ware to create and design a crossword puzzle based on the theme “State Nicknames.”

1. Using your desktop publishing soft ware, create a new document.

2. Save the fi le as CROSSWORD.

3. Follow the Page Setup Instructi ons provided on the next page.

4. To build your crossword puzzle, follow the steps below (the diagram on the next page gives you a good visual). Begin with 19 down. Count over 19 boxes across the top and 9 boxes down. Highlight those boxes as follows:a. Cell borders should be 1 pt. black

b. Shade them to light grey

c. Font is Times Roman 12 pt. unless otherwise noted

d. Add the number 19 to the top box

Note: Format the numbers in various cells with a top verti cal alignment.

5. Conti nue on with 8 across. From the bott om of 19 down, count over 4 to the left and 6 to the right. Highlight those boxes and follow the steps above. Add the number 8 to the fi rst left -hand box.

6. Move onto 4 down and conti nue unti l your crossword puzzle looks like the one on the next page.

Note: Answers that have a state with two words in its name are separated with a black fi lled box as shown.

7. Once your crossword puzzle is built, begin fi lling it in by answering the questi ons on the next page.

8. Once you have completed your crossword puzzle, add the text “State Nicknames” to the bott om left -hand corner as shown on the next page. You choose the color, font, size, and style of the text and boxes.

9. Proofread your work carefully for accuracy, design, and format.

10. Resave the fi le.

11. Print the document if required by your instructor.

2. Using the Internet, search for graphics and informati on about your vacati on desti nati on.

3. Keep the layout unclutt ered, with a good balance of text and graphic images.

4. Use bullets, numbers, borders, and shading to break up large amounts of text.
