The Hobnob Volume 31 Issue 2 March 2020 Secretary’s Corner Had I completed this newsletter earlier in the month I suspect that the message would have been a bit different than what you’ll find here. I was going to write about the continued progress at my office and how I’ve been refinishing my desk. I’ve never really tackled a project like this before, but I’ve been so proud of myself as I complete each step. My desk is a used and abused mid-century modern conference desk I purchased used for $25 back in 2011. It has beautifully clean lines and chrome hardware that matches the 1960’s modular wall units I was given. Unfortunately, the previous owner(s) of both the desk and wall units enjoyed keeping plants and other things that leaked and left terrible water stains. Storing them in the garage of our new location didn’t help since there were leaks in there I wasn’t aware of, causing even more water damage. I can’t wait to share pictures of the finished projects with you after I’m done. I only wish I had taken before pictures. The world has changed dramatically in the past week. Even when all of this has passed us by I’m not sure if or when we’ll get back to something we’d call “normal.” I wonder if the social distancing and fear will bring about a spur of new ham radio enthusiasts, or those who are looking for a backup plan. We have cancelled our meetings for the time being, like many other organizations. I’ve had to devote extra time these last few days to participating in virtual meetings and even producing a video message for our church community. We recorded the video at 3pm yesterday and I finally got it edited and uploaded to YouTube at 2:30am this morning. The learning curve was a little steeper than I expected for editing video, but iMovie (free on Apple products) did a very nice job and the results look professional. I’ve included Ken Spade’s obituary for those who may not have seen it, but I have another Silent Key to report. Bud Hesler, KZ2K, passed away last week. He was a member of MOARC years ago and a faithful volunteer for many of our events as recently as the Pirate’s Rum Runner last July. That’s it for now. I hope you all stay safe and healthy through this ordeal and hopefully we’ll see each other soon. Secretary’s CornerHad I completed this newsletter

earlier in the month I suspect that the message would

have been a bit different than what you’ll find here. I was going to write about

the continued progress at my office and how I’ve been

refinishing my desk. I’ve never really tackled a project like this

before, but I’ve been so proud of myself as I complete each step.

We have cancelled our meetings for the time being,

like many other organizations.
