18 Mill Operational Millage Renewal
Why?– Cornerstone of our educational funding– Required by law to get our State funding– Applies only to second homes and businesses– Provides over 60% of our operational dollars–Without this renewal, we will run out of
money by late October 2012.

Sinking Fund Millage Renewal
What?– 1.3193 mills for 7 years on all property– Costs $132 annually for a homeowner with a
$200,000 market-value house– A renewal of the existing millage with no
changes– Can only be used for major infrastructure
costs; no salaries, fringes or positions

Sinking Fund Millage Renewal
Why? – Items would otherwise have to come out of General
Fund (where we pay for all of our educational expenses)– Keeps facilities and infrastructure up-to-date, safe,
and inviting– Keeps community attractive to new businesses and
potential community members and students– Responsible for the current excellent condition of
our facilities

Sinking Fund Millage Renewal
What has this been used for in the past?– Replaced the aged roofs, boilers, electrical,
plumbing, & parking lots in most buildings– Renovated both auditoriums into preferred
performance centers– Created energy savings of over $350,000
annually– Purchased property for future expansion

New funds will be used in all district facilities:• Roof replacement• Parking lot, drive-way, & sidewalk replacement• Exterior repairs (e.g., drainage and windows)• Plumbing and restroom renovations• Selected electrical upgrades• Heating system upgrades and/or replacements

with a $200,000 market value house– Can only be used on technology &
communication equipment; no salaries, fringes, or positions

Char-Em Special Education Millage
What?– 1.16 mills for 4 years– Costs $116 annually for a homeowner of a
$200,000 market value house– Pays for specialists in our district from Char-Em staff– Contributes $700,000 for support of district special
education staffing– Frees up District General Fund dollars to be used in
other educational programs
