This presentation will feature an insightful introduction to the foundation of traditional Chinese culture and values. It will explore aspects of Chinese history, such as differ-ent dynasties (Ming, Tang), year of the Sheep, year of the Horse, year of the Monkey, traditional dance, martial arts,

Tai Chi, Chinese medicine, music, and much more. There will be a brief Martial Arts demonstration before the presentation begins. Tickets are not required.

How and when to collect Social Security is a subject on the minds of many Americans. Join Craig J. Ferrantino, CWS ®, Certified Wealth Strategist and host of the radio show It’s All About Retirement for an informative session. The following subjects will be covered: the Social Security planning process, planning strat-egies specifically designed for couples, and a discussion about how to maximize your benefits. Intermediate BridgeMondays, January 25th - March 21st, 7:00 - 9:00 PM(No class 2/15)

If you have attended the Bridge for Beginners sessions or have equivalent knowledge then you are ready to learn more from our Bridge instructor, Mark Shaiman. There is a $40 fee payable in-person upon registration, which is limited to Harborfields Library cardholders only through January 15th. Empire Safety Defensive DrivingSaturday, February 13th, 9:30 AM - 3:30 PM

There is a $28 fee, payable by check only to Empire Safety Council. Drivers may be eligible for discounts and to reduce points from their driving record upon completion of this six-hour class. In-person registration at the Reference Desk is required.

Wool Felting Class for BeginnersTuesday, January 26th, 7:00 PM

For beginning felters, or a refresher, join us in sculpting an apple from wool roving by “dry felting.” At the end of class, you will have a felted woolen apple pincushion. As pincushions, felted wool will naturally keep needles and pins

from rusting. Felted wool sculptures also make lovely gifts. All materials to complete the project are included for a fee of $10. In-person registration at the Reference Desk.

Commencing this month we will offer a series of three very basic, hands-on, beginner’s computer classes. We begin the year with Computers 101 in which we learn our way around the computer, how to use the mouse and how to open a program and draw a face. Leila Atkinson has an ongoing fascina-tion with trees, the network of branches, the contrast and movement they create with the surrounding space. This exhibit is a representation of growth and unity. Within the fractals of trees, the artists sees a message that nature has given us: “We

are parts of a whole.” She studied art in Paris and graduated with a Master’s Degree from Adelphi University. She teaches art at Commack High School and her studio is located in East Patchogue. Leila has exhibited her work on Long Island, in New York City, and internationally.

Young Adults Teens must be Harborfields residents in grades 6 - 12 to register for these programs, unless otherwise noted. Please call YA Central or register online.

4-Week Video Workshop for TeensOpen to students in grades 7 – 12Tuesdays, January 19th, 26th and February 2nd & 9th, 4:30 - 5:30 PM

Join your friends as you welcome video artist Jerri Castillo and learn how to create book trailers and promo-tional videos which you will be able to enter in the 2016 Teen Video Challenge, a competition among New York State Libraries to promote reading. Students can earn community service hours for taking part in this program. Please register.

Volunteers will assist the Children’s LEGOs program and earn two hours of community service. This program is limited to four volunteers and due to its popularity we will be accepting students who have not had an opportunity to volunteer since the school year began. What’s Your Game?Open to students in grades 7 – 12Saturday, January 30th, 2:00 – 4:00 PM

Philadelphia Flower ShowThursday, March 10thBus departs from Harborfields Library at 7:00 AM Returning approximately 8:00 PM

The world’s largest indoor flower show celebrates 100 years of the National Park Service with the theme “Explore America.” Enjoy lunch on your own at the Convention Center or at nearby shops. Current members of the Friends of the Library may register at 9:00 AM by telephone only on Friday, January 15th. Payment of $79 per person is due within three days. Transportation, admission, and all gratuities are in-cluded. If space remains, in-person only registration opens to Harborfields Library cardholders on Saturday, January 16th, limit of two tickets. Space is limited, the trip is co-sponsored by the Northport-East Northport Public Library. No refunds unless we are able to fill your space from a waiting list.

AARP Tax-Aide is a free tax counseling and preparation service, helping low and middle-income taxpayers, with special attention to those ages 60 and older. AARP Tax Aide volunteers cannot prepare returns that include rental property, military income, alternative minimum tax, or those with many stock transactions.

Please note that some tax information, especially from brokerage firms, may not be sent until the end of February.

AARP Tax-Aide is administered by the AARP Foundation, in cooperation with the IRS. Electronic filing (e*filing) is included. Taxpayers who e*file receive refunds more rap-idly. Please bring your current tax records and copies of your last filed federal and state tax returns. We also have a complete checklist of all the items you should bring. If it is to be a joint tax return both people must be present and must bring a photo ID and a Social Security card or another form of Social Security verifi-cation. Please call the Reference Desk for an appointment.
