MIN SLIP JOINT (PTFE) BEARING

MIN Slip Joint Bearing is specially developed and designed for load bearing brickwork, cast-in-situ post tensioned and precast concrete slabs as a continuous slip joint to centralize its loads. This is to avoid the crashing of concrete cover and to accommodate shrinkage and thermal movements.

MIN Slip Joint Bearing consist of a 1.5 mm thick G316 2B finished stainless steel sliding against a teflon (1 mm thick PTFE) bonded natural rubber strip in 1 meter length. It is blocked out either side with high density polystyrene strips and delivered completely with adhesive tape strapped together with the stainless steel plate for easier placement.

Standard Design Limits

Coefficient of friction : 0.06 to 0.07

Movement capacity : Up to +/- 50 mm. Larger movements

can be custom designed if required.

Vertical load Capacity : 200 KN/m to 500 KN/m. (As shown in the

Table 1 below).

Each of the types shown in Table 1 can be provided in a variety of overall widths and movement capabilities.

MIN Slip Joint Bearing is primarily use as a continuous slip joint under concrete slabs. In some cases, it may be convenient to use it in small length but not less than 200 mm as the slip joint bearing may be overloaded.

The standard MIN slip joint bearing should be installed in ‘Inverted’ position in precast structures. This is to prevent the damaging of the stainless steel sliding plate when used to support precast structures eg. Hollow core slabs and etc.

Installation Method Statement

a) Prepare the corbel seating area with a smooth level mortar finish so that the slip joint bearing can be placed within a plane variation of less than 3 mm along its length.

b) Place the slip joint bearing in position with 1 meter standard piece butting with the next piece. The connection butt joint has to be masked tightly with adhesive tape so that they are easily move prematurely during concreting or launching of precast slabs.

c) Make sure that the corbel seating area is completely covered with slip joint bearing and polystyrene so that there is no chance of concrete ‘shorting out’during the pour.

d) Care must be taken not to damaged the slip joint bearing during steel reinforcement tying and direct blows with shovels and vibrators during concreting.

MIN PTFE Sliding Elastomeric Bearing is specially developed and designed to take care of big movement with corresponding low height of the bearing. They can also be specially designed to take care of horizontal loads by making them as guided or fixed type using a hybrid system combination of steel restraints and top and bottom steel plates attachment with bolts and sockets anchorages.

They are very suitable for small span bridges and buildings. They are custom made to order simply because of the various load cases combination between the vertical, horizontal loads, rotation and movement capacity.

MIN PTFE Sliding Elastomeric Bearings consist of a 1.5 mm thick G316 2B finished stainless steel sliding against a teflon (1 mm thick PTFE) bonded natural rubber elastomeric bearing. The stainless steel sheet is welded onto the top attachment plates. The side restraints for the fixed and guided type are recessed and fully welded all round. All steel material used is of Grade 43A with a corresponding yield stress of 250 N/mm2. To make the friction as low as possible for the guided type, DU metal and stainless steel sheet are welded to the sliding area of the guide.
