The Psychological Medicine Conference: Connecting Minds is designed to foster understanding of mental health issues with a team care perspective. A program of distinguished speakers and presenters will provide a range of perspectives on mental healthcare. Keynote speakers Psychologist Michael Carr-Gregg who will give a pre-conference keynote address at lunchtime on Friday 13 September 2013. On Saturday, Professor Graeme Meadows, who has integrated his longstanding meditation practice into his professional and academic life, will speak about mindfulness-based therapies, and Dr Arne Rubinstein, CEO of the Australian Rites of Passage Institute, will talk about the developmental needs of adolescents. On Sunday, Professor Patrick McGorry (2010 Australian of the Year) will reflect on the ways in which GPs can contribute to the care of young people with psychosis and Dr Russ Harris (author of The Happiness Trap) will run a workshop on acceptance and commitment therapy. Two pre-conference workshops will cover ‘depression dilemmas’ (presented by the Black Dog Institute) and family therapy (presented by the ASPM). Conference workshops deal with grief counselling, collaborative mental healthcare and an introduction to EMDR.
