In the 1950's, in recognition of the contributions of American military
personnel in WWI and WWII, President Eisenhower signed legislation
changing the official name of Armistice Day to Veterans Day. This change
would allow for recognition of those serving in uniform in the future as well as
the past. For those who died, we must never forget the sacrifice they made for
our freedoms. For those wounded, we are duty-bound to help them return
their lives to as much normalcy as possible. And for those who served and
were fortunate enough to come home unscathed, we sincerely thank them for
their service!
So remember on Veterans Day, November 11, when you see a veteran, to
thank him or her for his or her service. For without them, the freedom which
we take for granted would have disappeared under tyranny long ago. (Also
remember them every day!)
Oh Lord, Thank you for the thousands of men and women who have accepted
the call to serve their country in our Armed Forces. For those who have
departed, bless their families and keep their memories alive within us so that we
might always remember their contributions to our freedom. For those who
remain with us, help us to always honor them and respect their courage and
devotion to duty.
Gracious God, help us to always give special tribute to those who were killed or
wounded on our behalf and for us to use their example to maintain our
commitment to our faith in God and our freedom to follow God's will. May we
always have the courage to fight for freedom and dignity, no matter how
difficult and costly the struggle.
We ask in the name of Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior, Amen.
May we all feel the supernatural love of Christ to help us through times we still
can't make sense of and to guide us into His precious peace that surpasses all
understanding.

LEC FILLED MY CAR CONTEST
Parking for registration may be tricky, so do what James Corden would do on
Carpool Karaoke! Pick up your friends, turn up your jam, and hit the road
together!
To enter for a chance to win a prize for your carload of friends, post a picture
on Facebook, Instagram, or Twitter of you all carpooling to LEC with our
conference hashtag, #LECFILLED. One post will be randomly selected for a
prize for each conference registrant pictured. The winners will be announced
on Monday evening as part of our Banquet, Dance, & Dessert event! Here's a

Only one entry per car/driver. Entries must be posted between Saturday
11/19/16 @noon and Monday 11/21/16 @noon. Must have at least two (2)
conference registrants in the car, and post must include #LECFILLED. The same
carload posted to two or more different social media platforms will be
considered the same entry.
Service Day is One Week Away!
Next Wednesday, November 16, is our 7th Annual PSD School Ministries
Service Day. Praise be to God for all of the missional work done within the
communities our schools serve in the Pacific Southwest District! What will your
school be doing this year? Operation Christmas Child? A clean-up day? Letters
of hope and encouragement? Donations to food banks or children's hospitals?
Visits to shut-ins? We are excited to see and hear what you have planned!
Don't forget to send us pictures of your students, teachers, and families in
action!
Pictured above and below are 5th graders from Mountain View Lutheran
School in Las Vegas, NV, doing their service day at Camp ALOMA, a
Lutheran camp outside Prescott, AZ. After breakfast on their second day at
camp, the students, parents and school staff spend three hours in service for
what the camp needs done. Generally, this includes raking/gathering fallen
pine needles, reinforcing and extending rock borders,and spreading mulch.
This year also included making nesting boxes for birds on the camp property.
Mountain View provided the materials, and the students and parents worked
together to measure, cut and assemble the boxes. Principal Kris Schneider
created this program from scratch and is working with Camp ALOMA to
formalize it for them to offer to other schools. Schneider said, "I see it as a
win-win for our schools and a wonderful, underused resource in our
District. Partners in ministry - right?" He is happy to talk with anyone who has

Around the PSD
3rd graders at Hephatha, Anaheim, CA, made these houses on a rock to go
with this year's theme. On each rock they painted what it is in their faith that
keeps them firm in their foundation with God.

National School Statistics
We want to thank each and every school that submitted their School
Statistics by the November 1st deadline! On our last update, we only had five
schools that hadn't submitted, and most of those we had spoken to and they
were working on them. Thank you so much for your attention to this most
important reporting piece. Here is a suggestion -- keep a copy of the form
you filled out or download a clean one. Give yourself a reminder to do this in
early August and then when you get the email from Synod, you will be ready
to log in and fill out the form!
Updates to NLSA Page on LuthEd.org
There have been some helpful updates to the NLSA tab on the LuthEd.org
website. This was a direct response to comments from users who were having
difficulty finding what they were looking for. Now when you click on the
NLSA tab, you will have a general overview of NLSA, and hovering over the
tab produces drop-down menus for specific items. National School Ministries
hopes these are helpful changes for you.

Microsoft License Agreements
It is time to renew your Microsoft Licensing Agreements! Click here to be
directed to the information page--you will find the order form linked
here. There have been some changes to the agreement, so please be sure to
read through it carefully. If you have any questions on the new agreement,
please contact Greg Busch. His contact information is at the end of the
information page. If you aren't signed up yet with the Microsoft License
Agreement, we encourage you to take a look as this agreement may save you
some money.
Blue Ribbon School Information
Have you ever wondered what it takes to be a Blue Ribbon School? Does your
school meet the criteria? If you are interested in finding out, click here to be
directed to CAPE's page on National Blue Ribbon Schools. Private schools
need to apply through CAPE (Council for American Private Education). The
online pre-registration form needs to be completed by November
15th. We would love to see more of our Lutheran schools recognized with
this honor!
National School Choice Week
With 79 days to go until National School Choice Week 2017 kicks off, there
are already more than 16,000 events being planned by schools, organizations,
and individuals across the country! These events will shine a positive spotlight
on effective education options for kids, including traditional public schools,
public charter schools, magnet schools, private schools, online academies, and
homeschooling (this also happens to be National Lutheran Schools Week!).
If you aren't sure how you will be celebrating National School Choice Week,
now is the time to start thinking. Check out the NCSW website for more
information!

childhood centers, and churches of the Pacific Southwest District are listed. To

lcms.org by noon on Wednesday of each week. This week we pray for:
the Linares and Nixon families. Samantha Linares is the School
Office Manager at Mountain View, Las Vegas, NV, and her dad,
Russell Nixon, died last night after a short term of hospice care. He was
living locally in Las Vegas and is probably most popularly known for
being a manager of the Cincinnati Reds and Atlanta Braves throughout
the 1980s.
