We all feel angry, sad, worried, stressed, afraid and out of
control at times. It can be very hard and
difficult when you feel like this
to manage these emotions.
We can feel angry, sad, worried, stressed and afraidfor different reasons. These reasons could be…
• You had an argument with your brothers or sisters or friends.• You are changing school.• Someone you know is feeling sick.• You are finding it hard to do your homework.• Someone has hurt you.• You moved house or country.• You miss a friend.
Can you think of any other reasons?
The way in which you decide to manage these emotions is important. Different people deal with
these emotions differently.
Some people manage their anger, stress, worries and fear in the wrong way and end up hurting themselves or other people.
How can people manage these feelings?
Look at the picture on the right and read the text. These are wrong ways of dealing with
anger, stress, worries and fear.
People use different coping skills to manage these emotions.
Coping skills are tools people use to handle their anger, stress, worries and fear.
Look at the picture on the left and read the text. These are good ways of dealing with
anger, stress, worries and fear.
A good coping skill is one that helps you feel better in that
moment without hurting yourself
or anyone else. It is also one that doesn’t
get you into any trouble now or later.

of good examples of different coping skillsyou can use.
Remember! Whenever you
feel overwhelmed
by your emotions.
Calm down by using a coping
skill that makes you feel better.
Stop and think what you can do.
Most importantly when feeling angry, sad,
worried, stressed and afraid, speak about it
with an adult you trust. They can help you.
Lastly the way we think affects the way we feel and behave. Change negative (bad)
thoughts with positive (happy) thoughts.

by practicing and trying new coping skills, you will find out
what works best for you.
Once you know what helps you to feel happier, calmer and more in control, you will feel able to deal with these difficult situations
and feelings.
