Jesus’ certain victory

Page 2: Psalm 2

Psalm 2 / The nations reject the LORD and his Christ1 Why do the nations rage, and the people plot a vain thing? 2 The kings of the earth set themselves, and the rulers take counsel together, against the LORD

and against His Anointed [Christ], saying, 3 “Let us break Their bonds in pieces and cast away Their cords from us.”

Exodus 18 / Representational government under God17 Moses' father-in-law [Jethro] said to him, “…You shall represent the people before God…20 and you shall warn them about the statutes and the laws... 21…look for able men…, men who fear God, who are trustworthy and hate a bribe, and place such men over the people as chiefs of thousands, of hundreds, of fifties, and of tens. 22 And let them judge the people at all times. Every great matter they shall bring to you, but any small matter they shall decide themselves…”

Deuteronomy 17 / Representational government under God [again]14 “When you come to the land which the LORD your God is giving you, and possess it and dwell in it, and say, ‘I will set a king over me like all the nations that are around me,’ …16 But he shall not multiply horses for himself… 17 Neither shall he multiply wives for himself…nor shall he greatly multiply silver and gold for himself. 18 “…he shall write for himself a copy of this law in a book…and he shall read it all the days of his life, that he may learn to fear the LORD his God and be careful to observe all the words of this law and these statutes.

BUT the nations don’t want to be ruled but men or women who represent God and his law.

Psalm 2 / God laughs at the wicked

4 He who sits in the heavens shall laugh; the

Lord shall hold them in derision. 5 Then He shall speak to them in His

wrath, and distress them in His deep displeasure: 6 “Yet I have set My King [Jesus] on my holy hill of Zion.”

Psalm 2 / “Resistance is futile”

7 “I [Jesus] will declare the decree: The LORD has said to Me,

‘You are My Son, Today I have begotten You. 8 Ask of Me, and I will give You the nations for Your inheritance, and the ends of

the earth for Your possession. 9 You shall break them with a rod of iron; You shall dash them to pieces like a potter’s vessel.’”

Psalm 2 / Warning and promise

10 Now therefore, be wise, O kings;

Be instructed, you judges of the earth. 11 Serve the LORD with fear, And rejoice with trembling.

12 Kiss the Son, lest He be angry,

And you perish in the way, When His wrath is kindled but a little.

Blessed are all those who put their trust in Him.

Acts 4They [Peter and John] raised their voice to God…: “Lord, You are God, who made heaven and earth and the sea, and all that is in them, 25 who by the mouth of Your servant David[b] have said:

‘ Why did the nations rage, And the people plot vain things? 26 The kings of the earth took their stand, And the rulers were gathered together Against the LORD and against His Christ.’27 “For truly against Your holy Servant Jesus, whom You anointed, both Herod and Pontius Pilate, with the Gentiles and the

people of Israel, were gathered together 28 to do whatever Your hand and Your purpose determined before to be done. 29 Now, Lord, look on their threats, and grant to

Your servants that with all boldness they may speak Your word, 30 by stretching out Your hand to heal, and that

signs and wonders may be done through the name of… Jesus.”

31 And when they had prayed, the place where they were assembled together was shaken; and they were all filled with the Holy Spirit, and they spoke the word of God with boldness.

Acts 1326 “Men and brethren, sons of the family of Abraham, and those among you who fear God, to you the word of this salvation has been sent. 28…they asked Pilate that He should be put to death. 30 But God raised Him from the dead. 32 And we declare to you…that promise which was made to the fathers. 33…[a]s it is also written in the second Psalm:

‘ You are My Son, Today I have begotten You.’

Hebrews 1

5 For to which of the angels did He ever say:

“ You are My Son, Today I have begotten You”?

Page 16: Psalm 2

Hebrews 5

5 So also Christ did not glorify Himself to become High Priest, but it was He who said to Him:

“ You are My Son, Today I have begotten You.”

Revelation 2

26 And he who overcomes, and keeps My works until the end, to him I will give power over the nations— 27 ‘ He shall rule them with a rod of iron; They shall be dashed to pieces like the potter’s vessels’— as I also have received from My Father.

Revelation 123 And another sign appeared in heaven: behold, a great, fiery red dragon having seven heads and ten horns, and seven diadems on his heads. 4 His tail drew a third of the stars of heaven and threw them to the earth. And the dragon stood before the woman who was ready to give birth, to

devour her Child as soon as it was born. 5 She bore a male Child who was to rule all nations with a rod of iron. And her Child was caught up to God and His throne. 6 Then the woman fled into the wilderness, where she has a place prepared by God, that they should feed her there one thousand two hundred and sixty days.

Revelation 1913 He was clothed with a robe dipped in blood, and His name is called The Word of God….15 Now out of His mouth goes a sharp sword, that with it He

should strike the nations. And He Himself will rule them with a rod of iron. He Himself treads the winepress of the fierceness and wrath of Almighty God.
