Psalm 1

1Blessed is the man who does not walk in the counsel of the wicked or stand in the way of sinners or sit in the seat of

mockers. 2But his delight is in the law of the LORD, and on his law he meditates day and night. 3He is like a tree planted by streams of water, which yields its fruit

in season and whose leaf does not wither. Whatever he does prospers.

Psalm 1

4 Not so the wicked! They are like chaff that the wind blows away. 5 Therefore

the wicked will not stand in the judgment, nor sinners in the assembly of the righteous. 6 For the LORD watches over the way of the righteous, but the

way of the wicked will perish.

The Righteous

Blessed means Congratulations, this is the life most worth living.

The secret : saying ‘No’ to the world.

3 ways the Righteous say ‘No’ Where they Step Where they Stand Where they Sit

Page 7: Psalm 1 17th July 2011

(1) Where They Step

Concerned with advice on morality, integrity and upright behaviour.

Do NOT follow advice of the ungodly.

GO to godly people for advice.

Page 8: Psalm 1 17th July 2011

(2) Where They Stand

Does not hang around with ungodly people.

Keeping bad company will draw you away from God.

Page 9: Psalm 1 17th July 2011

(3) Where They Sit

Sitting with mockers means further step of involvement with a godless society.

Mockers are those who: Mock at God Scoff at Him Profane His Name Swear at God

The Righteous

Delight in the Word of God.

Draw instruction from God’s Word. Tells us our destiny and purpose in life.

Like a flourishing tree by the water’s edge – strong, healthy and always fruitful.

Fruit of the Spirit – Galatians 5.

What You Do Will Prosper

NOT promising successful career or financial fortune. Something greater.

Many people waste their lives chasing after things of no lasting value.

What you do will have lasting value, eternal significance.

Your life will count in the Kingdom of God for all eternity.

Page 12: Psalm 1 17th July 2011

The Wicked

Persons who: Ignore God Do not acknowledge God Live without God.

Like chaff (useless part of the grain) to be burned up.

Their lives are of no lasting value.

Cannot stand with God’s people.

Page 13: Psalm 1 17th July 2011

Two Ways

God watches over the Way of the Righteous. God knows the Righteous.

God does NOT know the Way of the Wicked. God does NOT know the Wicked.

My Response

Prayer of Repentance

Dear Lord Jesus, I know that I am a sinner. I have been walking in the way of the

wicked. I know that only You can save me, Jesus. I repent of all my sins and I ask you to wash away all my sins. I receive you as

my Lord and Saviour. Change and transform me to be more like You. I ask that You give to me your Holy Spirit and I thank

You that You have given me eternal life today. In Jesus’ Name I pray. Amen
