Greetings from Maine’s January Thaw.

As you can see, we’ve been expanding our catalog with more musicians whose work we admire. We’re proud to off er the last CD that the legendary Helen Schneyer made before she died. We also have music by Jay Ungar & Molly Mason, Ruth Ungar’s solo album and a recent tribute to Rachel Carson called “Songs of the Earth” and we are very pleased to include the folk-rock quintet, The Mammals in our catalog.

We’ve been encouraged by the response from folks who have down-loaded songs and whole albums, so we’ll keep doing that. We always look forward to hearing from you about the music in your lives so let us know what you listen to and how you like to listen to it. Happy Spring!

Departure - The Mammals CD The Mammals new album Departure shows the band moving towards a completely unique sound. The rocking energy of fi ddles and banjos has been augmented with electric guitar, keyboards and a heavy rhythm section. The songs are political in tone yet completely accessible. Departure is a break through album for The Mammals. This is their third studio album. (2006)

The Mammals are a powerhouse folk-rock quintet described by one critic as “…one of the best hopes we have for the future and vitality of American folk music.” Over time, the lineup has evolved from an acoustic trio to a fi ve-piece band with electric bass and drums. Today The Mammals blend Appalachian fi ddle-banjo alchemy with their own contemporary lyric poetry, and a dynamic rock-n-roll rhythm section.

The band features Tao Rodriguez-Seeger, grandson of the legendary Pete Seeger, Michael Merenda, art-pop songwriter, Chris Merenda, drummer and solo artist, Jacob Silver, bass player, and Ruth Ungar, daughter

of Grammy-winning fi ddler/composer Jay Ungar. Blending the textures of their varied instruments, repertoires,

and infl uences, The Mammals are spreading their motto “Trad is rad” across the nation. In a constantly evolving genre, the group creates a strongly grounded acoustic sound that is beautiful, energized, and raw — preserving the

timeless appeal of American roots music.

As the Boston Globe says: ““The Mammals play old-time stringband music the way Jack Kerouac wrote novels - with an abandon born of a deep understanding of structure and form. Their sound is wild, mirthful, and masterful.”

The Story of The Mammals

“...gleefully aware that the sound barriers separating old-timey music, vintage pop and contemporary folk are as permeable as cotton...accoustic traditionalists,

to be sure, but the subversive sort.” - The Washington Post
