This describes the items for pRRU3801 routine hardware maintenance. The maintenance items

include equipment room environment, pRRU3801 module and power supply.

3 Powering On/Off the pRRU3801

Based on the Power over Ethernet (PoE) technology, the pRRU3801 with an electrical portobtains -48 V DC power from the RHUB3808 through the CAT5 or CAT6 Ethernet cable. The

pRRU3801 with optical ports obtains -48 V DC power through the power adapter.

4 Replacing a pRRU3801

The pRRU3801 is an indoor remote radio unit that processes RF signals. Replacing the

pRRU3801 interrupts all the services carried by this pRRU3801.

5 Replacing an Optical Module

This describes how to replace an optical module. The optical module provides the interface for

optical-electrical conversion, thus enabling transmission through optical cables between the

BBU and other devices. You need to disconnect the optical cables when replacing the faulty

optical module. Therefore, services on the optical cables are disrupted during the replacement.

3 Powering On/Off the pRRU3801

Based on the Power over Ethernet (PoE) technology, the pRRU3801 with an electrical port

obtains -48 V DC power from the RHUB3808 through the CAT5 or CAT6 Ethernet cable. The

pRRU3801 with optical ports obtains -48 V DC power through the power  adapter.

Prerequisite

The power switch of the primary power supply to the pRRU3801 is set to OFF.

Procedure

l Power on the pRRU3801.

1. Power on the pRRU3801.

2. Check the power supply to the pRRU3801.

If... Then...

The input power voltage of

the power adapter for the

 pRRU3801 with optical

ports ranges from 100 V AC

to 240 V AC.

Go to Step 3. Otherwise, replace the power supply

equipment, and then go to Step 3 until the input

 power voltage meets the requirement.

The PWR LED on the

 pRRU3801 with an electrical

 port is steady green

Go to Step 3. Otherwise, you can infer that the

pRRU3801 with an electrical port is not properly

powered on. In this case, check the cable

connections and rectify the equipment fault, and

then go to Step 3 until the PWR LED is steady

green.

3. Check the status of the RUN LED on the pRRU3801.

If the RUNLED Is...

You can Infer that... Then...

ON There is power input, but

the board is faulty.

Shut off the power supply, rectify the

fault, and then power on the

 pRRU3801 again.

4 Replacing a pRRU3801

The pRRU3801 is an indoor remote radio unit that processes RF signals. Replacing the

pRRU3801 interrupts all the services carried by this pRRU3801.

Prerequisite

l The hardware configuration of the faulty pRRU3801 is confirmed and the new pRRU3801

with the same configuration is prepared.

l The connection of each cable that is connected to the pRRU3801 is recorded.

l Tools such as cross screwdriver, ESD wrist strap, and socket wrench are ready.

Context

It takes about 10 minutes to replace the pRRU3801.

NOTE

The pRRU3801 can be installed on the pole, wall or ceiling. The methods of installing the pRRU3801 in

different scenarios are the same. The following part takes the replacement of the pRRU3801 installed on

a pole as an example.

Procedure

Step 1 Cut the pRRU3801 power supply.

Step 2 Disconnect all the cables from the pRRU3801 and take insulating measures on the cables.

Step 3 Remove the two screws M4 x 12 from the bottom of the pRRU3801, as shown in Figure 4-1.

installation, refer to the pRRU3801 Installation Guide.

Step 7 Install the optical module on the optical port of pRRU3801.

CAUTION

Take correct ESD protection measures during operations, for example, wear an ESD wrist strap

or a pair of gloves. This can prevent electrostatic hazard to boards, modules, or electrical parts.

Step 8 Connect cables to the new pRRU3801 according to the recorded connections.

Step 9 Power on the pRRU3801.

----End

Follow-up Procedure

After replacing the pRRU3801, ensure that the following requirements are met:

l On the M2000 or the LMT, related alarms are cleared.

l A UE can access the cell carried by the pRRU3801.

Contact the local Huawei office to handle the faulty pRRU3801.

Prerequisite

l The quantity and model of the faulty optical modules are checked, and new optical modules

are ready.

l The connections of the faulty optical module and the associated optical cable are recorded.

l The ESD wrist strap or gloves and ESD box or bag are ready.

Context

Optical modules are installed in ports CPRI0 through CPRI2 on the WBBP.

Optical modules are hot swappable.

It takes about five minutes to replace an optical module. The time covers the activities of

disconnecting the optical cable, removing the faulty optical module, inserting a new optical

module, connecting the optical cable to the new optical module, and recovery of the CPRI links.

CAUTION

l Take proper ESD protection measures, for example, wear an ESD wrist strap or a pair of

ESD gloves, to prevent electrostatic hazard to the board, module, or electrical parts.

l Do not look directly at the optical module after removing the connector of the optical cable

from the optical module.

Procedure

Step 1 Press the latch on the connector of the optical cable. Then, pull the connector out of the faultyoptical module.
