NAME OF THE HOUSE : AMALA ANJALI YELAGIRI – HILLS Mission of the house : boarding , Sunday oratory, village ministry, self help group. The house Amala Anjali is a centre run by the salesian sisters of Don Bosco , for the tribal welfare and promotion , particularly of women, girls and children. It is a new venture came to be at realization on 24th April 1996. There is a gradual growth in view of this mission.

Our work among the tribal people in yelagiri Hills for their upliftment and human promotions calls for greater sacrifice And dedication. We work for the women, child laborers and dropouts. Thus we bring awareness of education and eradicate illiteracy and ignorance.

Sunday Oratory: Festive oratory is conducted in Mangalam village. There are about 40 children attending the oratory. We do animate them and help them in their integral formation.

Balwadi: We help the women in the nearby villages to go for work. The mothers leave their children in the Balwadi and go for daily. There are 20 children in the Balwadi, preparing to go to school as preparatory classes.

Tailoring Class: 10 to 15 young ladies and girls have been taught embroidery. They came from the nearby villages and learn to cut and stitch their clothes and also some hand work, bag making etc., some of them are able to stitch their own clothes.

Drop outs: The girls and boys who failed in X std are helped to finish their studies. They are given coaching in all the subjects by the sisters and helpers. At present 10 of them have finished their studies this year.

Women Group: We have 2 Self Help Group for the women in the villages. There are other existing women groups which are really a hindrence to reach to many other women in the villages. Awareness programmes on literacy, health and hygiene, child care, small saving and right to the woman are conducted to them in the villages. We are able to reach to the regularly.

Evening coaching Classes: In collaboration with the Salesians we do assist the evening coaching classes in 13 villages. Among the 14 villages we take care in 8 villages and follow the children and their studies. Monthly meetings for the children and teachers are conducted here.

Adult Education:

Boarding for children: We have a residential house for the tribal children of the localities who are easily drawn to be drop outs, child labourers and bounded labourers. We are able to accommodate 50 children of this type in our boarding and help to attend the school regularly. They are given special coaching as many of them are drop outs to school. They go to the nearby Government schools and St.Charles school. Thus able to bring their talents and abilities.

Voluntary Service in Government School:

As the year goes increase of number of children in the boarding so we felt the need to orient our children for the integral formation. Therefore a Special Oriented Programme, Leadership and Personal Development Programme, Celebrations, Medical Camp, Competitions.
