OSEL offers a blend of traditional and modern multi-purpose venues which are perfectly suited to host both residential courses and day delegates. Oakham’s extensive facilities are the perfect backdrop for conferences, corporate functions, training rooms, sporting and social events.

Located in the historic market town of Oakham, near the tranquillity of Rutland Water, the School’s central location has excellent road and rail links to London, Stansted, East Midlands and Birmingham airports. With ten comfortable boarding houses able to accommodate a range of group sizes and extensive teaching, seminar and conference spaces, the School campus is enhanced by a wealth of historic buildings interspersed with cutting-edge contemporary classroom space.

CONFERENCE VENUES & MEETING ROOM HIRE OSEL utilises the School’s extensive campus making it ideal for meetings, exhibitions, lectures, or private events. The new Social Science Building, the Mehra Faculty of Science and the Wilson Lecture Theatre are perfect for large or small scale groups. These can be coupled with our traditional School buildings, Old Hall and the Bowes Room, which together with the BAF Smith and the Wilson sports pavilions offer additional social spaces.The experienced OSEL team will work with you to select the most appropriate location and facilities for your planned activity. The following venues are available for hire:

FACULTY OF SOCIAL SCIENCESThe new Social Sciences building is an ideal venue for business meetings with an impressive reception area, small conference room and plenty of break-out space. Also available just a short walk away are our 50-seat and 225-seat lecture theatres. Officially opened in 2017, this stylish and multi-purpose venue offers the latest in technology and even houses an iconic black ‘No. 10 Downing Street’ front door – ideal for photo opportunities with VIP guests.

MEHRA FACULTY OF SCIENCEOpened in 2013, the Mehra Faculty of Science offers a large auditorium and numerous break-out rooms.

OLD HALL & BOWES ROOMThe historic buildings of Old Hall and the Bowes Room are located in the atmospheric Chapel Close and are more traditional in look with Oak panelling and high ceilings. Both rooms can host up to 20 people with a separate kitchen facility for refreshments.

LECTURE VENUES

ASHBURTON LECTURE THEATREThe Ashburton Building is close to Oakham town centre and offers 32 classrooms across 3 floors as well as the Ashburton Lecture Theatre on the ground floor, seating up to 50 guests.

WILSON AUDITORIUMThe theatre-style tiered seating in the Wilson Auditorium accommodates up to 225 guests comfortably with a welcoming foyer which is ideal for an informal drinks reception.

PERFORMING ARTS AT OAKHAM OSEL provides Performing Arts facilities for group hire, including modern Lecture Theatres, a professional Queen Elizabeth Theatre and Music School. All venues are close to onsite accommodation, parking and the School’s Barraclough Dining Hall which is renowned for its delicious food and relaxed atmosphere. Working directly with OSEL’s dedicated team, the experienced in-house staff are on hand to support and manage your conference or private function to ensure a high-quality experience that is individually tailored to any size or budget.

LEISURE FACILITIES OSEL offers a wide range of first-class sporting provisions spread across the School’s 40 acre campus – including world-class cricket wickets, rugby and football pitches, astro pitches and tennis courts. The fully-equipped sports facilities and grounds are available to hire for community or private sports bookings throughout the year.

Private membership of the Oakham Leisure Club is also available and gives use of the swimming pool, squash and tennis courts and fitness centre.

Oakham Swim School offers weekly children’s lessons, intensive swimming courses and Rookie Lifeguard courses throughout the year. Adult swimming lessons, Aqua Fit sessions, Synchronised swimming classes and Parent and Baby/Toddler classes are also available.

BAF SMITH PAVILIONThe BAF Smith Pavilion is ideal for smaller meetings and social events, with a fully-equipped kitchen and serving area. The balcony and ground floor doors open onto the cricket and rugby pitches of Doncaster Close making it well-suited for private hire.

The upper level of the newly refurbished Sports Centre provides informal space for corporate functions or social entertaining, with access to an outside viewing balcony that comfortably seats up to 50 people.

RESIDENTIALOakham School can provide residential accommodation in ten boarding houses, offering a total of 600 guest beds. Each house ranges in size from 56 to 70 beds, providing single, twin and a small number of multi-bedded rooms on a shared bathroom basis. Each house has its own individual style and welcoming atmosphere with comfortable common rooms with TV, video and Wi-Fi facilities.

Every boarding house has its own kitchen as well as beautiful gardens and outdoor space with barbecue facilities. All houses are within an easy walking distance of all our venue hire facilities, sports centre and the central Barraclough Dining Hall. Free onsite parking is provided within a short walk from each house.
