Plans fail for lack of counsel, but with many advisers they succeed. 23. A man finds joy in giving an apt reply—and how good is a timely word! 24. The path of life leads upward for the wise to keep him from going down to the grave. 25. The LORD tears down the proud man's house but he keeps the widow's boundaries intact. 26. The LORD detests the thoughts of the wicked, but those of the pure are pleasing to him. 27. A greedy man brings trouble to his family, but he who hates bribes will live. 28. The heart of the righteous weighs its answers, but the mouth of the wicked gushes evil. 29. The LORD is far from the wicked but he hears the prayer of the righteous. 30. A cheerful look brings joy to the heart, and good news gives health to the bones. 31. He who listens to a life-giving rebuke will be at home among the wise. 32. C. Example: Rehoboam. I Kings 12:13-16, The king answered the people harshly. Rejecting the advice given him by the elders, he followed the advice of the young men and said, "My father made your yoke heavy; I will make it even heavier. My father scourged you with whips; I will scourge you with scorpions." So the king did not listen to the people, for this turn of events was from the LORD, to fulfill the word the LORD had spoken to Jeroboam son of Nebat through Ahijah the Shilonite. When all Israel saw that the king refused to listen to them, they answered the king: "What share do we have in David, what part in Jesse's son? To your tents, O Israel! B. Luke 12:16-21, And he spake a parable unto them, saying, the ground of a certain rich man brought forth plentifully: And he thought within himself, saying, What shall I do, because I have no room where to bestow my fruits? And he said, This will I do: I will pull down my barns, and build greater; and there will I bestow all my fruits and my goods. And I will say to my soul, Soul, thou hast much goods laid up for many years; take thine ease, eat, drink, and be merry. But God said unto him, Thou fool, this night thy soul shall be required of thee: then whose shall those things be, which thou has provided? So is he that layeth up treasure for himself, and is not rich toward God. C. Matthew 25:113, Then shall the kingdom of heaven be likened unto ten virgins, which took their lamps, and went forth to meet the bridegroom. And five of them were wise, and five were foolish. They that were foolish took their lamps, and took no oil with them: But the wise took oil in their vessels with their lamps. While the bridegroom tarried, they all slumbered and slept. And at midnight there was a cry made, Behold, The bridegroom cometh; go ye out to meet him. Then all those virgins arose, and trimmed their lamps. And the foolish said unto the wise, Give us of your oil; for our lamps are gone out. But the wise answered saying, Not so; lest there be not enough for us and you; but go ye rather to them that sell, and buy for yourselves. And while they went to buy, the bridegroom came; and they that were ready went in with him to the marriage: and the door was shut. Afterward came also the other virgins, saying, Lord, Lord, open to us. But he answered and said, Verily I say unto you, I know you not. Watch therefore, for ye know neither the day nor the hour wherein the Son of man cometh. (KJV)
