Did you know ...Untreated wood purchased for use in residential or commercial applications is likely to grow mold and have devastating effects in the future. The level of mold infestation in a home will directly affect

removal cost and whether or not a specialist is required to do the job. A crawl space, for example, could cost as little as $500 to repair but a whole house remediation cost could be tens of thousands of dollars.

Why should I worry about mold? You can’t control what happens to your wood once it leaves your location. Even though wood appears clean when it is stacked in packs, mold and stain fungi can attack where moisture is present, creating unsightly lumber discolorations that result in customer complaints and loss of value.

Every time a customer breaks open a pack of your lumber, your reputation could be in jeopardy. Wood that leaves your yard is not immune from the elements, even if covered, or wrapped, and preventive mold treatment provides peace of mind at a low cost that your product will arrive at its destination fully protected against the natural forces which facilitate mold growth.

Kiln-dried wood is not exempt from mold growth. Humidity and moisture trapped inside paper wrapping create perfect mold-growing conditions and changing market conditions do not ensure timely inventory turnover through the supply chain.

Did you know ...Heat, humidity, and precipitation all contribute to a moist environment

in wood packed neatly and tightly for delivery. A changing atmosphere can cause mold to grow, even if the outside of a lumber pack looks perfect. Don’t stake your reputation on how others handle your lumber once it leaves your yard.

MOISTURECOULD LEAD TO MOLD OR DECAYFungi is present in all climates and thrives in moisture-rich environments. If not controlled, fungi can begin to grow on wood within a matter of days thus destroying the appearance and eventually the performance.

Fungi also thrive in a damp climate and destroy wood by attacking the wood fiber, causing it to become soft and weak.

Mold, stain and decay fungi are not only undesirable but also cause millions of dollars in damage each year. Additionally, mold can lead to a host of health problems if not remediated. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, exposure can lead to severe allergic reactions and chronic respiratory illnesses. (Ref: www.cdc.gov/mold/faqs)

You don’t want your customers to find this on their shelves.

Uphold your quality standard and ensure continued protection even after your wood leaves the sawmill.

Protection against mold and decay will continue while the wood sits ready for delivery to a lumberyard or jobsite.

Lonza offers you reputation protection beyond your mill

FrameGuard treated wood provides protection against mold, fungal decay, and termites, and is used for whole house framing, including roof trusses, wall panels, and structural members in both single and multi-family homes. With a factory-applied primer and approved top-coating, it can be used for exterior trim and millwork.

FrameGuard treated wood has a minimal impact on lumber design values and fastener corrosion, and no impact on plate holding strength. It has zero emissions, does not require field treatment of cut-ends and can be disposed in ordinary construction landfills.

FrameGuard treatments are factory-applied to the wood building components with a distinct green colorant for complete protection of the wood surface, unlike field-applied products which only protect the visible surfaces.
