The environment (the air, land and water around us) provides the conditions for

developing and sustaining all forms of life

Unfortunately, we sometimes use our environment as the dustbin for everything

we don’t want

Page 7: Protecting our environment

Some of the factors which influence an organisation’s effect on the environment are:• location• supplies required• work activities• products• waste

Think about how we (Axis) affect the environment

Page 16: Protecting our environment

How can we controlpollution and waste?

Page 17: Protecting our environment

Protecting our environmentProtecting our Environment

Once we’ve identified how we affect the environment, we need to establish which issues

require specific management

Page 18: Protecting our environment

Protecting our environmentProtecting our Environment

One way to do this is with a risk assessment: find out the likelihood of the occurrence of harmful activities, and their consequences

Page 19: Protecting our environment

When solving pollution and waste problems, the following principles can help:

Page 20: Protecting our environment

Protecting our environmentProtecting our Environment

If an incident occurs, we need to have processes in place to respond and

repair any damage

Page 21: Protecting our environment

These plans should form part of our emergency procedures, and be reviewed

and practised regularly

Page 22: Protecting our environment

The best way to manage environmental risks is to have a systematic approach, as when managing health and safety risks:

Page 23: Protecting our environment

advantages: profitability, competitiveness, better relations and premiums

• Integrate environmentalfactors into your responsibilities

Page 43: Protecting our environment
