What is PLUNGE?Plunge is a one-year Christian program for 18-23 year olds who are eager to dive deeper into life with God. It is designed to challenge you personally and spiritually, and develop you as the leader God has called you to be. Plunge is a three-day-per-week program that will equip you theologically and experientially with biblical understanding, ministry skills and practical abilities, so that you can navigate your life ahead with confidence and competence.

WHERE CAN I DO PLUNGE?

Plunge is based on the campus of Morling College in Macquarie Park, Sydney.

WHO IS PLUNGE FOR?

Plunge is for 18-23 year olds looking to journey deeper into life and faith - equipping you with the skills to navigate your world.

PLUNGE PROSPECTUS2

Course REQUIREMENTS:Plunge is designed for those who have finished the HSC (or interstate/international equivalent) or have equivalent life experience. Plunge is one cohort of students learning together in the classroom in two streams: Diploma and Certificate Plunge is a one year investment that follows the Morling College Calendar, with additional experiences such as the Overseas Trip and retreats. Students come back together after completing the course to graduate with other Morling College students the following year.

HOW DO I CHOOSE THE PLUNGE STREAM THAT IS RIGHT FOR ME?

DIPLOMA OF CHRISTIAN STUDIES ACADEMIC STUDIES IN THEOLOGY CERTIFICATE

For entry in to the Diploma of Christian Studies students need to have completed year 12 in an Australian school system or equivalent.If you haven’t completed year 12, mature aged entry (20 years and above) is available.

For entry in the Theology Certificate, students need to have completed year 10 in an Australian school system or equivalent.

The majority of students who take the Plunge enrol in the Diploma of Christian Studies.Many students find that the Diploma allows them to dive deeper into Biblical, Theological and Practical subjects, as they experience God and His people through community engagement and practical ministry.At the end of year, you will have completed a full Diploma, and can get credit for the subjects you have already done if you want to come back and continue your studies at Morling in the future!

The Certificate allows you to take the Plunge with the rest of the cohort. Completion of the certificate still requires attendance in class and on community engagement days, however your assessments are a little different. The Certificate is also available to those who have deferred a competitive degree at another university, especially if the university will not allow you to study a degree whilst deferring.

Critical to our ongoing effectiveness as followers of Jesus is our ability to think and reflect on our life experience through the lens of God’s Word. Both Diploma and Certificate streams involve a full time study load. The subjects that you will complete as you work towards your award are as follows:

At Plunge, you are not lost in the crowd but are recognised as the individual God has called you to be. Each student comes with unique backgrounds, experiences, challenges, gifts and dreams and we target personal growth through small group coaching and wider group activities.A coach will help you navigate and reflect on this journey. You will learn more about your personality, leadership capacity and ability to influence - skills which may be carried forward into future life, ministry and careers.Plunge offers you the opportunity to go deeper in your spirituality and your exploration of your calling. You will be exposed to new cultures, ideas and possibilities of what it means to follow Jesus. You will explore the Scriptures and engage with communities across Sydney and beyond in our cross-cultural mission exposure trip.

As part of the cross-cultural mission exposure trip, you will be trained, guided and debriefed. Total fees for the one-year Plunge program include the full costs of the cross-cultural mission exposure trip, retreats, team building and other activities. It also includes some meals on campus. A payment instalment plan is available in which students regularly pay their course fees throughout the semester.

We also encourage you to ask your church congregation if they will partner with you both in prayer and financial support as you do Plunge. As a full-time student you may be eligible for travel concessions and may be eligible for Austudy.

FAQ’sWill Plunge help me in my involvement and ministry in my local church?

Yes! Through study, friendships, personal and spiritual development, Plunge students are able to further identify areas of service or deepen their current ministry understanding and skills. As a result, local churches benefit significantly from the participant’s year of training with Plunge. Plunge is normally on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursdays only. You will, therefore, still be able to participate in your church, home group and other ministries.

When does the course start and finish?

The course starts mid-February with an overnight retreat and then Orientation week. Morling College mid-semester breaks often follow NSW school holidays, with a longer semester break in winter. The course ends in mid-November.

When do applications open?

Applications will open at the end of October 2018 and interviews will be held in November and December. If places are still available, additional interviews may be scheduled for January and February. However, please indicate your interest by emailing us at plunge@morling.edu.au so that we can keep you informed of updates.

Is there accommodation available?

Yes! Morling College offers accommodation for additional charges. (Please see the Morling College website for details.)

Will I have time to work part-time as well as study?

Yes! Plunge is a full-time study program with only 3 days per week in face to face learning. You will need to set aside time for reading, assessments and additional study time. However, many students are able to manage part-time paid work as well.

Can I defer from Uni and still do Plunge?

Yes! If you complete the Certificate program you can defer your position at University, and pick it up the year after you do Plunge. Some universities may also allow you to defer and complete the Diploma level course.

What if I can’t decide between the Diploma or Certificate programs?

Just apply and talk with one of our staff during the interview. They will go through the information in this prospectus, ask you further questions and help you decide which program is best for you. Both Diploma and Certificate students sit in the same classroom together each day, as such their learning experience is exactly the same. The biggest difference between awards is found in the length and breadth of assessments we require from them.

Is Plunge only for Baptists?

No! Each year we have people from different Evangelical church denominations participate in Plunge. Whilst Morling College is the official training college for Baptist Churches in NSW & ACT, we are open to people from any Christian denomination.

WORKING WITH CHILDREN CHECK

Step 1: Apply Online

Go to www.service.nsw.gov.au/transaction/apply-working-children-check and complete the online form.Please make sure the details you provide are exactly the same as the details on your identity documents. Ensure you select the correct category: volunteer worker.Once you have submitted the form, you will receive an application number.

Step 2: Present your ID

Go in person to a Service NSW office. You will need your application number and proof of your identity. You will need both of these for your application to proceed.

Step 3: Approval

You will receive the outcome and Working With Children Check number by email.
