Build on your qualifications at your own pace

With the ICB, after successfully completing just a few

learning areas (subjects) you’ll get your first

qualification.

You can then build on this by completing more

groups of learning areas, upgrading your

qualifications as you go.

What’s great is that you can take a short break

between qualifications

Should you choose to continue your studies later,

you can pick up where you left off.

Just don’t take too long a break, as subject material

does change, and if you leave it too long, you

might need to do some make-up courses.

WHEN TO WRITE EXAMS?

ASSESSMENT TIMETABLE

The are important for when you’ll write your final assessments and submit your Portfolio of Evidence. It is quite important that you

register for each assessment by the closing date.

IMPORTANT

These assessment timetables are subject to change and the ICB reserves the right to cancel any assessment at its own discretion.

Results will be released on the due date on condition that PoEs are received at the ICB's offices by their due dates.

Late entries will only be accepted at the discretion of ICB Management and late entry fees will be levied.

SO…..HOW ARE YOU ASSESED AS AN ICB LEARNER??

It’s pretty simple. 30% of your final mark comes from the

activities and evaluations you undertake during your course.

Your Portfolio of Evidence (PoE) is a folder given to you at the

start of the course, once you’ve registered for an assessment

with the ICB. You’ll need to put any assignments given to you

as well as the tests you take in it. Your PoE is complete when

your final assessment is added to it at the end of your course.

When you sit down to write your final assessment – which

counts for the remaining 70% - you’ll include it in your PoE,

which an ICB registered assessor will then check to see the

levels of competencies you have achieved. The activities and

evaluations are essential, as they prepare you for the final

assessment, and also provide evidence of the hard work and

effort you’ve put in leading up to it.

MAKING THE GRADE

A passing grade (‘competent’) needs to be at least 60% for the

overall course, and you need to get a minimum of 50% for the

final assessment.

If you’re assessed as ‘not yet competent’, you still have a

chance to write one (just one) supplementary assessment,

which has a pass mark of 60%. You must do this within 12

months of your original summative assessment date. We do

recommend that re-assessments are written ASAP, as subject

content will change and it’s your responsibility to make sure

you are aware of what’s changed.

Final assessments are held at ICB-approved assessment centers

around southern Africa.

RECOGNITION OF PRIOR LEARNING

Get credits: Recognition for work experience and prior studies:

If you have previously picked up registered qualifications or part

qualifications; Or have acquired solid experience working in a

relevant field then you might be able to get credit for these

towards an ICB qualification. All you need to do is follow the

ICB’s procedure to apply for Recognition of Prior Learning

(RPL).

To apply for RPL you’ll need to submit the relevant form and

pay an RPL administration fee. Submit these along with your

detailed CV and transcripts of any formal registered

qualifications you hold. ‘

The ICB will review your application and offer you credits based

on subjects you’ve already passed, or they may ask you to

complete a Portfolio of Evidence (PoE), which we they supply.

If you wish to accept these credits, you will need to pay

another fee to be granted full or conditional exemptions, and

remember: you must be registered with the ICB too.
