Harrington\VaughanAcademyisaprivatelyownedcompany,registeredin1993,whichoperatesasan IndependentTertiaryEstablishmentunder theEducationAmendmentAct1989.

The Academy is registered as an Independent Tertiary Establishment withNew ZealandQualifications Authority, and is accredited to provide EducationandTrainingbasedontheUnitStandardsfromLevels1-5ontheNewZealandQualificationsFramework.

This is evident from the frequent monitoring activities by management and tutors, and the opportunities students have to reflect on their learning.

Student achievement is regularly monitored and analysed using many processes incorporated into teaching practice, as well as student feedback and achievement data. Management and tutors have a very good understanding of individual student progress and of the performance of all certificate programmes, and use this to make changes to delivery that have resulted in improved retention and completion.”

This28weekfulltimequalification(FundedbytheTertiaryEducation Commission) offers each Learner the sameopportunity to achieve NCEA Level 2 with a vocationalpathwayinService(80credits)

» MustnotholdanyqualificationsatLevel2

» Studentsmustbeunder19yearsatthetimeofstudycommencement(16-19Years).

» Studentsthatare15withanearlyexemptionfromschoolmayalsobeconsidered.

» Musthaveaminimumof2yearssecondaryeducation.

» SufficientLiteracyandNumeracyskillstosucceedintheattainmentofthisQualification.

» ProficientintheEnglishLanguagebothspokenandwritten

» Mustparticipateinaninterviewprocessfortheprogramme

Additional assistance with Literacy and Numeracy is offered as part of thisQualification.Eachlearnerwillbegivenaninitialassessmentandthenasuitableprogramme will be developed to ensure literacy and numeracy issues areintegratedintotheircourseofstudy.Thelearnerwillhaveanopportunitytoimproveoverthetimeonthecoursetheirliteracyandnumeracyskills.

Thecontentofthisprogrammeisfocusedaroundtheserviceindustryandalllearningandassessmentwill takeplace in theAcademy Itdoesnotmean that youhavetowant tobeahairdresser tocomplete thisprogramme, the intent is toget youreadyfortheworkplaceenvironmentbylearningabouttopicssuchasHairdressingCommunication,ReceptionDuties,Budgeting,JobSearch,FashionTrends&Image.

YourProgrammewillhaveadesignatedProgrammeEducatorwhowillberesponsibleforyourgroup,however,itisimportanttounderstandthateachgroupwillbeinstructedbyavarietyofEducatorsforallcoursecomponents.YourprogrammeEducatorwillbe the person responsible for themaintenance of your student records etc, andshouldbeyourfirstpointofcontactifyouareexperiencinganychallengesrelatedtoyourprogramme.

Programmeworkissetouttoensurethatyouareabletounderstandanewtask,beshownhowtocompletethattask,discoverthetheorybehindthattask,practiceandgatherevidenceandthengointoassessmentofthattask.

Theassessmentprocessisself-paced.Youmaybegiventheopportunitytoassessina“NaturallyOccurring”environment.ItismorelikelythatyouwillhavesetAssessmentdays.Itisimportantthatyouplanaheadtodeterminewhichassessmentsyouwantto complete and when you want to achieve them by. Your Educator will requireadvancenoticeofyourintenttoassesstoenablethepreparationofyourpaperwork.Youwillneedtoensurethatyouhaveyourselfpreparedfortheassessmentday.
