A Message from the PrincipalWoodstock School is a remarkable place. In this exceptional and beautiful environment young people from all corners of the globe and all walks of life live and learn together. Visitors to our campus discover an energy and a vitality here. Our ethos is a dynamic blend of happy purposefulness, a determination to succeed, to enjoy life, to enjoy each other's company – and, most importantly, to discover that there is far more in each of us than we think!

We firmly believe that young people should enjoy school and that they learn better when they are actively involved in their education, regularly challenged, properly supported and given every opportunity to find and develop their potential. We offer an inspiring setting for the education of young people in the firm belief that something of great value is waiting to be unearthed within each of them.

Our broad and imaginative curriculum takes seriously the capacity for young people to learn across the full range of their experience – academic, enrichment and residential life. Our proud tradition of student involvement and decision making ensures Woodstock treats young people as individuals. This passion for bringing out the unique talents in each student lies at the heart of our educational philosophy.

Our aim is that students will leave Woodstock well-balanced, ready to go out into the future, to lead happy and fulfilling lives and to contribute positively and generously to the world.

Educational PhilosophyWoodstock has a proud 150-year tradition of excellence in education. Succeeding generations have sought to maintain the vision and spirit which have earned the school a world-wide reputation. In recent years, the school’s education philosophy has been articulated in ten key principles. Drawing inspiration from Woodstock’s past and taking careful account of the latest research into education and learning, these principles define the basis from which our transformative educational approach is derived. These principles represent the essence of a Woodstock education and its unique place in international education today.

Education should:

• Emerge from clear philosophical and spiritual underpinnings.

• Take place within a compassionate and caring community.

• Require the balanced development of the whole person.

• Be challenging, engaging, and experiential.

• Offer opportunities for young people to show initiative and

develop self-discipline.

• Maximize the potential for learning held by a diverse school community.

• Develop a clear understanding of leadership and service.

• Embrace the outdoors as a significant resource for learning and

personal development.

• Cultivate a responsible relationship with the natural environment.

• Encourage a healthy lifestyle to support the development of the whole person.

Residential LifeResidential Life at Woodstock is an integral part of our programme. Many graduates regard the years spent sharing their lives with friends from other cultures and traditions as amongst their most formative experiences here.

Residential life is eating, working and playing together, building relationships and enjoying the vitality of this thriving international community. The atmosphere is friendly and accepting. The unique background of each student is valued for its contribution to the lively variety of residential life.

Dorms are the place where community life and social skills are grown. Qualified and experienced staff help students to build the developmental assets which will enable them to succeed in the rapidly changing world of the 21st century.

For our 12th grade students, a specially designed transition programme allows self-discipline and independence to develop in preparation for life beyond Woodstock. Seniors enjoy unique responsibilities in self- leadership, time management, personal and study-skills.

Enrichment ProgrammeWoodstock has moved extra-curricular activities to a whole new level – enabling students to explore the world in an engaging and purposeful way. We do not see enrichment as something which is, by definition, extra-curricular! Enrichment activities are built into the daily schedule. Students have opportunities to try new experiences, develop new skills and discover their passions across an incredibly wide range of activities.

Woodstock has strong traditions in a number of areas and these are well represented. All kinds of music from Indian classical to Western jazz may be heard around the campus. High quality drama productions are featured at least twice a year, with large casts both on-stage and behind the scenes. Students commit themselves to humanitarian and environmental initiatives including projects in rural communities and local schools.

Activities range from robotics and programming to vehicle mechanics, cookery and crafts. Sports, particularly in our world-class gym, are ever popular and there is a high level of interest in personal fitness training, road-running, hiking and climbing.

Activity Week takes students off campus in a structured approach to experiential learning. This is based on our belief that exposure to challenge, in a secure environment and appropriately reflected upon, can awaken a self-belief and resilience which can last a whole life long.

Academic ProgrammeWoodstock is a college-preparatory school that teaches all grades from K-12 under a curriculum that leads to the American High School Diploma and the Indian Mark Sheet.

Woodstock’s senior school offers sixteen Advanced Placement examinations, alongside a range of other subjects. The junior school curriculum helps students develop the confidence, skills and habits that will make them successful in their advanced studies. Our English as a Second Language programme builds students’ capabilities, and enables rapid integration into mainstream classes.

By focusing on the Cambridge IGCSE at grade 10, and the College Board AP exams in grades 11 and 12, we are able to serve students who come to our programme with a variety of intelligences and gifts. These curricula form part of a balanced and coherent programme that best meets our students' needs, giving them a strong foundation in skills and concepts, as well as the needed credentials for further education around the world.
