Guidance on call for extended abstracts & review
• Preference for 1000 - 1,500 word extended abstract and supporting figures Assess readiness / determine probability of delivery Results for paper should be in hand & evident
• 3 technical reviewers per abstract Emphasis on technical quality Requires pre-review tactical prep w/ TC/PCs
8
Technical quality is key!
Guidance on use of acceptance for poster presentation
• Generally not favored by TCs Implied comment on quality of work Authors may not be interested in pursuing
• Poster presentations with technical papers used effectively in P&E Forum 2014 Provides capacitance / head room Enables acceptance of papers from young authors
9
Anticipate use of poster presentations
Pre-organized sessions – spade work for quality tracks
• Effective to “pre-organize” sessions (enhance quality & response) Specific subject matter of topical interest Do not need to create “special” or “invited” sessions
– just indicate intent and encourage submissions Encourage joint sponsorship (multiple TC; TC/PC)
• Work with interested TC/PC membership Emerge session ideas of key relevance/interest
– Monthly telecons w/ interest TC members are effective– Document discussion – email notes
Assign champions to organize sessions– Contact potential authors– Provide monthly status 10
Initiate monthly telecons
• 4th Friday (or Thurs) of month• 1:30 PM (Eastern)
• Next step: Finalized call-for-extended abstract Due: Aug 13, 2014 to
– Jerry Welch ([email protected])– Deputies: Jason Smith ([email protected]) &
Michael Choi ([email protected])– David McGrath (Dep. Dir P&E TAC, [email protected]) – cc: to Cathy Chenevey ([email protected])
11
Open discussion – leveraging Orlando opportunity
• Engagement of aero, space, and power/energy sectors in the Central FL area Ideas for potential technical / panel sessions Benefits derivable from joint-sponsorship
• Examples: Academia Space – Kennedy (propulsion, energy [fuel cell work] …) Florida Solar Energy Center (hydrogen, photovoltaics, …) Power / Energy
– Siemens (Jupiter / Orlando); MHI; Florida Power & Light
Defense simulation / IT industry 12
Discussion (cont.)Additional Orlando contact ideas from open discussion:• Almston• Florida Turbine Technology• P&W Rocketdyne• ATK• Embrair• SpaceX• L3 Coleman Aerospace• Lockheed Martin• KSC – reinventing itself – facilities/capabilities• GE Aviation• Propulsion FPACP• Sikorsky, West Palm• DoD Simulation Community
