An entry treatment is a raised platform with graded approach and departure ramps built across a side road where it meets a main road. These raised platforms would encourage vehicles to enter and leave Westbury Avenue at a lower speed; they would also provide a safer and more convenient levelled crossing point for pedestrians. 22.. Footway build-out with a centralrefuge island in Willingdon Road at itsjunction with Westbury Avenue, together with a pedestrian crossingpoint and tactile paving.

• This feature encourages speedreduction by reducing the widthof available road space forvehicles, while still beingsuitable for two way traffic. Thiswould also improve visibility forall road users and improvesafety for pedestrians crossingthe road.

33.. Pedestrian refuge islands withilluminated “keep left” bollards, anddouble yellow lines at five locations as shown on the plan.

• A pedestrian refuge island isbuilt in the central part of acarriageway with drop kerbs on either side of the footwayproviding a safer crossing point for pedestrians. Thisfeature also restricts road width and encourages motorists to reduce speed.

44.. Vehicle Activated Signs placed infour different locations, as shown onthe plan.

• This is an illuminated sign thatflashes the speed limit and thewords “SLOW DOWN” ifmotorists exceed the speedlimit. This feature can reduce thespeed of traffic by 15-20%.

• This feature is a road markingwhich alerts motorists to slowdown.

77.. Hatched white line road markingsproposed in the centre of the widersection of the carriageway alongWestbury Avenue.
