Transport for NSW is planning to build a new, architecturally designed substation within the existing rail corridor along Lindfield Avenue, Lindfield.

The new substation is needed to:

• Increase the power supply along the North Shore Line, providing capacity

for more frequent train services

• Future-proof the power requirements of the North Shore Line to enable

the upgrade of train services to support the delivery of the North West

Rail Link.

Key features of the proposed substation include:

• Construction of two new rail traction power transformers enclosed within

an architecturally designed substation building

• Realignment of existing 33kV and 11kV overhead wiring, signalling and

communication cables

• Permanent security, anti-vandal and anti-graffiti measures to the building

• Landscaping

• Relocation of site access from the corner of Lindfield Avenue and the

Strickland Avenue Bridge, to opposite Middle Harbour Road

• Relocation of some utility services and street lighting

• Rail corridor works between Killara Station and Strickland Avenue.

The new substation will be architecturally designed to have a modern

appearance that blends in with the existing streetscape and will include

landscaping around the site.

Review of Environmental Factors (REF) processA Review of Environmental Factors (REF) will be conducted

to identify any potential issues

and proposed mitigation

measures that will be put in

place to minimise the project’s

impact during construction

and operation.

The REF is based on a range

of specialist studies and covers

issues such as noise and

vibration, flora and fauna, as

well as visual and aesthetic

factors.

The assessment outlines the project and how construction will be managed as well as

how all relevant operational

health and safety guidelines are

proposed to be satisfied.

Meeting environmental and health standardsTransport for NSW has planned the Lindfield

Substation in line with relevant standards for health

and environment during both construction and

operation of the facility.

This includes managing noise during construction

and meeting relevant health standards for electric

and magnetic fields (EMF), which are found wherever

electricity is present. This includes home and office

appliances, substations and electrical cables.

Project timelineBelow is the proposed project timeline for construction of

the Lindfield Substation. It is anticipated that construction

will be completed over a two and a half year period. Note

these dates are indicative only and subject to change.

Where can I review the proposal?The Lindfield Substation REF will be on public

exhibition for a period of fourteen days starting from

Monday 28 July to Monday 11 August 2014. Locations
