Key Influences• Influences began with Alex Katz and Hundertwasser mainly due to

their use of colour within their work• Hundertwassers architecture inspired me to focus on buildings for this

project, particularly ones with interesting irregular shapes• Katz flat style of painting appealed to me as well as the bright colours• Buildings in Vienna because of the decorative, ornate style yet muted

colours, I wanted to reverse this and use bright colours but a more simplified style

Proposal 1• For this proposal I took a composition from my model and made it on

a larger scale using cardboard. • Shapes were taken from different buildings/monuments in Vienna

such as Hundertwassers fountain and I used the shape as well as the negative space.

• I had been looking at Katz work however this proposal doesn't have that element of flat colour because I had to blend the colours but it does still use bright colours inspired by him.

• The irregular shapes used by Hunderwasser in his paintings inspired me to use similar ideas in mine.

• The elements of texture added from the corrugated cardboard brought my other experiments of collagraph printing into the design and combined the flat painting with some texture.

• This proposal communicates the difference in architecture in Vienna with inspiration from artists I researched whilst there. It highlights the conservative early 20th century style buildings with the bright colours of its modern art and architects such as Hundertwasser.

Proposal 2• For this proposal I took a composition from my model and made it on

a larger scale using cardboard. • I had been looking at Katz work which is reflected here through the

flat colours and contrasts with the older style building.• Hundertwasser was still an inspiration for this for the way he used

colour and gave his artwork a childish feel, similar to what I have tried to create here.

• The elements of texture added from the netting brought my other experiments of collagraph printing into the design and combined the flat painting with some texture.

• This proposal communicates the difference in architecture in Vienna with inspiration from artists I researched whilst there. It highlights the older Belvedere Palace in monochrome with the bright colours of its modern art and architects such as Hundertwasser.

Proposal DEVELOPMENT

• To develop my proposal further I would practice making it out of wood as my final piece would be a wooden relief painting instead of cardboard.• I would also look at adding in more texture inspired by my collagraph

print because at the moment it looks too flat. This could maybe be done by printing directly onto the wood however I’d have to experiment with that as I don’t know how well it would work.• Changing the composition or adding in new shapes could add a new

interest to it because the composition hasn’t changed much since my model.
