WHAT’S ON AT JUPITEREXHIBITIONS

CÉLESTE BOURSIER-MOUGENOT, from here to ear v.2014 May – 17 JulyFrench artist Céleste Boursier-Mougenot presents his seminal work in the Steadings Gallery from here to ear v.20 featuring a charm of zebra finches and electric guitars. This sensational presentation displays thesongbirds as they perch and settle in groups upon electric guitars and basses ready toreceive the finches. As they fly from one instrument to another they strike and pluck chords which draw together a concert of punk and heavy-metal along with their own song.

DITTE GANTRIIS, Love is Eternal14 May - 17 JulyDitte Gantriis presents her first solo presentation in the UK at Jupiter Artland. Her presentation in the Tin Roof Gallery will include a new body of work with a wall motif that will consist of erotic drawings taken from luxury lingerie shops, a series of sculptures made from handmade glass, ceramic, cast aluminium and tin, as well as woven blankets and landscape paintings. Alongside this the artist will display her expanded seriesfeaturing outsized functional wicker baskers within the grand setting of the BallroomGallery.

HELEN CHADWICK, Piss Flowers14 May - 17 JulyBritish conceptual artist Helen Chadwick em-braced the sensuous aspects of thenatural world, breaking taboos of the “normal” and “traditional” in art historical pedagogy.Piss Flowers (1991-92), in which she cast the interior spaces left in the snow by warm urine, are at once repulsive as they are beautiful, and it is this combination that typifies Chadwick’s work - aesthetic beauty created out of analliance of unconventional, often vilematerials.

CHRISTIAN BOLTANSKI31 July - 27 September Christian Boltanski will present twoinstallations in the Steadings Gallery and Goldsworthy Room. Shadow Theatres (Som-bras) is a series developed by the artist across different moments since 1984. Each ofBoltanski’s theatres is a phantasmagoria.Metallic figurines are projected upon the

gallery walls, which are materialised through their movement as they twitch in and out of focus as if relating to a dreamlike ritual. Les Archives du Cœur is a collection of recorded heartbeats that the artist has been gathering since 2008 and is housed on the uninhabited Japanese Island of Teshima. This acclaimed installation will be presented at Jupiter Artland and will offer visitors the opportunity to record their heartbeat to be submitted to Boltanski’s archive.

HAYLEY TOMPKINS31 July - 27 SeptemberUsing familiar and commonplace objects, Tompkins’ work explores the language of paint and the experience of the ready-made. Tompkins selects objects and then radicalises them through the application of paint to alter their appearance. This playful behaviour aims to destabilise their description and therefore eludes to their categorisation in the world of objects around us. For the artist’s firstpresentation at Jupiter Artland she willproduce a new floor-based installation using paint and image.

CAROLINE MESQUITA31 July - 27 SeptemberJupiter Artland is pleased to exhibit the first outdoor commission by French Artist Caroline Mesquita, the artist’s first solo institutional exhibition in the UK. As with many of Mesquita’s sculptural tableaux the artist will depict an energetic scene of life size figures, impassionately staged, sharing emotive gestures over the unfolding event surrounding them.

CHRISTIAN BOLTANSKI PERMANENTCOMMISSIONFrom 31 JulyFor his first permanent installation in the UK Jupiter Artland is delighted to present Animitas by the renowned French artist Christian Boltanski. The work is comprised of hundreds of small Japanese bells attached to long stems planted in the ground. The bells chiming to the wind let out the “music of the souls”. Each bell will be placed on the island within the Duck Pond to reproduce the map of the stars on the night the artist was born, 6th September 1944.

WHAT’S ON AT JUPITERALEC FINLAY, A variety of CulturesFrom 14 MayA VARIETY OF CULTURES is a significant new artwork by Scottish artist and poet Alec Finlay, created for Jupiter Artland. The project is an essay in eco-poetics - it will grow, season by season. It consists of an orchard of native apple and plum varieties with theaddition of oak ladders. Placed near the trees, which are still young, the measure of the ladders anticipates the eventual extent the pruned canopies will fill – when they do, visitors will be able to climb into the blossom, leaves and fruit.
