One Way Beam and Slab

System

Description:

The post-tensioned structural system was selected afterconsider different pros and contras. One of the mostimportant factor to adopt this system is it versatility, itprovides the necessary flexibility to achieve thearchitectural curvilinear shape and form. It allow todesign highly precise, customizable forms. This versatilitymakes cast-in-place concrete appropriate for this large, architectural project. The thickness of the concrete slab is10". The one way slabs have spans of 30 ft. while thetypical beams range between of 20 to 47 ft. spans. Theirregular shape of the bays increase as they go farther ofthe centrifugal point.

Other Considerations:

• Strong and solid construction that providescomfortable shelter from typical weather, andminimizes property damage while protectingoccupants from extreme weather, like naturaldisasters.A major advantage of concreteconstruction for high-rise buildings is the material'sinherent properties of heaviness and mass, whichcreate lateral stiffness, or resistance to horizontalmovement.

• Low maintenance cost and low energy bills.Thetight-form building envelope minimize airinfiltration, simplify the addition of insulation, andprovide thermal mass for more consistenttemperatures and decreased energy usage. This isbeneficial from an environmental and cancontribute toward a building's greenness in manyrating systems and some codes.

• Smooth riding surface, by minimize joins.• Fire resistance ratings to meet code requirements.• Provides long, column-free spans easy to adapt to

the building's framing form and parkingrequirements.

Disadvantage:

• Initial cost• Labor requirements to cast-in-place concrete is

high. Builders must first construct forms for thewalls and then install the forms and mix theconcrete. Pouring the concrete and waiting toremove the forms all take time that extends thelength of a construction and results in more hourlypay for work crews.

Placed within the 10" slab thickness, to create acontinue smooth ceiling surface and increaseheight clearance. To maintain the beam's strength, the height size of the original beam was increasedtwice to the horizontal axial for example:Original beam height 36" now it is 10" X 72"
