Proposal Julien Brohan

1
Why me? My name is Julien Brohan. I have more than 5 years of experience in Academic Technology Transfer. I gained my strong exper>se in Intellectual Property, Licensing and Technology Transfer as a licensing associate at France Innova>on Scien>fique et Transfert SA, the Technology Transfer Office of the largest European research center: the CNRS. I was also in charge of all FIST SA communica>ons ac>ons. For more informa>on about my background and achievements, please see my LinkedIn profile: hPp://linkd.in/1BGS4Gg . Among my accomplishments, I succeeded in ini>a>ng, from a large porUolio of 130 inven>ons, 37 patent / SoYware / Trade Secrets licensing agreements with startups as well as mul>na>onal companies, 11 deals are closed as of today (which should generate more than 1,5M € during the terms of the agreements (minimum royalty payments + miscellaneous payments)). The different recommenda>ons I received from my supervisors at FIST SA account for my successful career in this Technology Transfer Office. For example, Corinne Monnier, my direct supervisor "will definitely regret [having me] in [her] team”. Frédéric Mougel, another direct supervisor, states that I am a "hard worker dedicated to [my] job”. Why am I interested in Technology Transfer? Ini>ally, I chose to work in this field as it allows me to combine keen interests I have in Science, Technology and Innova>on while helping world technological advancement (even if my ac>ons can appear to be quite isolated, I am proud to be part of it!). Available posi>ons in this community are for me highly sa>sfactory, as they tend to be very mul>faceted: from technology to legal aspects through nego>a>on. No >me to rest! From a less joboriented perspec>ve, I think Technology Transfer is a vital ac>vity in the innova>on ecosystem not only for the origina>ng organiza>ons of the technologies but also for the public interest. It creates value in terms of revenues (for example: academicindustry patent licensing have contributed up to $1.18 Trillion to U.S. economy since 1996 according to BIO organiza>on) and employment through companies such as startups developing transferred technologies. The beneficial impact can be measured locally but also na>onally. Now, that recently introduced bills with the objec>ve of stopping abusive li>ga>on, such as the Innova>on Act, H.R.9 are known to endanger Technology Transfer and inventors. It is crucial to show successful Technology Transfer results and to advocate for it in this >me of uncertainty. I recently arrived in Los Angeles, CA. This city and this country are not strange to me, as I have been coming here on many occasions since 2007. This new life offers new challenges I am ready to tackle. What I am seeking is now to con>nue my career in Technology Transfer and work for a local Technology Transfer Office. Please consider, if you are interested in my proposi>on, having a mee>ng so we can discuss what I can offer. To add my contribu8on to Technology Transfer in the USA. To help research organiza8ons promo8ng a technology and innova8onbased growth in the public interest.
