Dissertation Tutor Andy Broadey Rationale (200 words) // A design practice content driven by the creative sector, which investigates the relationship between the functions of print and digital design. Looking at how and when they work together or rely on one another for a increased level of visual communication. All work will carried out with a strong focus on typographic driven editorial design and layout. Statement of Intent (SOI) - (400 words) // I plan for my creative development to be focused around the relationship between the functions of print and digital; whether they work separately, in support/conjunction or can more importantly can rely on each other to achieve the full potential of necessary level of communication. I will need to research contemporary typographic and layout driven design work, to see what is at the height of this area of practice, on a global scale. I will also need to look into content driven concepts for work produced for the creative and cultural sectors, as this is the main content focus of my practice. A considerable amount of research into the technical development of digital design will have to be carried out, i.e. exporting/conversion of ebooks. The main focus is undoubtedly the relationship between print and digital, how do they function separately and/or together. The practical development of my design practice will aim to build on the level of typographic and layout driven work I have reached to date, whilst trying to take it to the next level, through experimentation and risks.

Brief 1 (Title) Self Promotion

// Produce a physical printed piece of self promotion, which highlights my area of design practice, which looks at the relationship between print and digital. I aim to produce an ‘analogue website’ as an opposing concept to a digital portfolio. It will be a piece of print work featuring the coding of my website, with a focus on the detail of the typesetting. I plan to produce and print the piece using traditional print methods, to further emphasise the level of analogue it considers. I will then send them out to companies I aspire to. 3. Brief 2

(Title) Typeface Production // Produce a quantity of typefaces (probably around 4), which will include the ideas and production, through to the final functional typeface, produced into Fontographer through to promotional publications and contextual usage. 4. Brief 3
