Format: Magazine I am going to produce a new classic and modern rock, folk, soul, country to reggae, electronic and experimental music magazine in the form of a Front Cover and DPS (Double Page Spread) as part of a larger promotional project for ‘Beat’ magazine. My magazine will contain back stage at festivals/concerts, upcoming tours, reviews on albums & films, working in the studio, celebrity gossip, new albums coming up, and interviews with the most popular music artists at the time and lastly, competitions. Moreover, I will be promoting my magazine in social media such as Facebook, YouTube, Twitter and Instagram.

Working Title: My working title is ‘Beat’ although this might change. This is part of the name of a band that could appear in the fanzine although it will not be all about them. The format of the Front Cover and Double Page Spread will be simple but effective such as using the same colour throughout the magazine to build brand identity and the colours that I will be using will be presented in various ways such as their purpose. The font style that I will be using is Century Gothic for my masthead, Arial for normal text such as for the double page spread interview. Arial font style for the puff promotion. Furthermore, Brush Script Std for the strapline. Lastly, Times New Roman for the cover lines, sky line and headline.

Genre: The sub-genre of my music magazine is classic and modern rock, folk, soul, country to reggae,

electronic and experimental. The magazine will be aiming to compete with from the same sub-

genre is Mojo magazine. As there are a lot of sub-genre every month will have a different genre

especially the Front Cover to illustrate that every sub-genre deserves a chance to be in the Front

Cover.

Content: The name of sub-genre entitled ‘Beat’ magazine will be full of pictures, articles, album reviews, gig reports and song lyrics. The publication will also feature bands that are generally quite small and not mainstream. Most will be signed to small record labels or perhaps not signed at all. There will also be a ‘star appeal’ (Richard Dyer) for the readers such as Adele, Ed Sheeran, Taylor Swift etc.

Style or Approach: The colour scheme that I have chosen is white, red and black will be consistent throughout my magazine to insure brand identity. The colour white it indicates purity and professionalism. The colour black connotes represents strength, seriousness, power, and authority. Black is a formal, elegant, and prestigious colour. Authoritative and powerful, the colour black can evoke strong emotions and too much black can be overwhelming. Lastly, with the colour red it ‘signifies’ (De Saussure) energy, war, danger, strength, power, determination as well as passion, desire, and love. I am going to use Photoshop to construct the magazine pages (Front Cover and Double Page Spread) because some of the tools in Photoshop that will be particularly beneficial in constructing Double Page Spread will be the use of the ruler to see if everything is in line with one another and also when creating a text box the text will wrap around it.

Audience: The audience is mostly male although there are still female fans. They are 15-24 in general although some might be older and a few younger. Music is a big part of their life and they will base most of their activities and their style around this music.

Length: In length, there will be 131 pages as my magazine is a monthly basis it will be enough to cover the key information such as tour dates, interviews, competition etc. Moreover, the size of my magazine will be an A4 page as it is the most important one for daily office use.

Frequency: Monthly Why? Because my competitor produce a magazine that is a monthly magazine. Cost? The starting cost will be £2.50 but however Mojo’s magazine cost £4.80 per magazine. I know my magazine cost very little but this will go up depending on how my first issue will sell. If it is successful there is a high percentage that it will cost more a little at a time each year.
