DescriptionDayton Bench Grinders are equipped with a totally enclosed ball bearing motor.Armature assembly is dynamically balanced for smooth operation. Motor housingis compact so long pieces of work can press against both wheels without touchingthe motor frame. Removable wheel guards allow for easy changing of wheels. Toolrests are adjustable for wheel wear and angle grinding. Grinders come completewith spark guards, safety eyeshields and dust collection hose.

UnpackingCheck for shipping damage. If damagehas occurred, a claim must be filed withthe carrier immediately. Check for com-pleteness. Immediately report missingparts to dealer.

Your risk from these exposures vary,depending on how often you do thistype of work. To reduce your exposureto these chemicals: work in a well venti -lated area and work with approvedsafety equipment. Always wearOSHA/NIOSH approved, properly fit-ting face mask or respirator when usingsuch tools.

BE PREPARED FOR JOB

1. Wear proper apparel. Do not wearloose clothing, gloves, neckties, rings,bracelets or other jewelry which mayget caught in moving parts of machine.

2. Wear protective hair covering to contain long hair.

3. Wear safety shoes with non-slip soles.

4. Wear safety glasses complying withUnited States ANSI Z87.1. Everydayglasses have only impact resistantlenses. They are NOT safety glasses.

5. Wear face mask or dust mask if operation is dusty.

6. Be alert and think clearly. Never operate power tools when tired,intoxicated or when taking medications that cause drowsiness.

PREPARE WORK AREA FOR JOB

1. Keep work area clean. Cluttered workareas and work benches invite accidents.

2. Do not use power tools in dangerousenvironments. Do not use power

tools in damp or wet locations. Donot expose power tools to rain.

3. Work area should be properly lighted.

4. Proper electrical plug should beplugged directly into properlygrounded, three-prong receptacle.

5. Extension cords should have agrounding prong and the three wiresof the extension cord should be ofthe correct gauge.

6. Keep visitors at a safe distance fromwork area.

7. Keep children out of the workplace.Make workshop childproof. Use padlocks, master switches or removeswitch keys to prevent any uninten-tional use of power tools.

TOOL SHOULD BE MAINTAINED

1. Always unplug tool prior to inspection.

2. Consult manual for specific maintain-ing and adjusting procedures.

3. Keep tool clean for safest operation.

4. Remove adjusting tools. Form habitof checking to see that adjustingtools are removed before turningmachine on.

5. Keep all parts in working order.Check to determine that the guard orother parts will operate properly andperform their intended function.

6. Check for damaged parts. Check foralignment of moving parts, bindingof moving parts, breakage of parts,mounting and any other conditionthat may affect a tool’s operation.

7. A guard or other part that is damagedshould be properly repaired oraced.Do not perform makeshift repairs.(Use the parts list to order repairparts.)

1. Use right tool for job. Do not forcetool or attachment to do a job forwhich it was not designed.

2. Disconnect tool from power whenchanging accessories such as grindingwheels, buffing wheels and the like.

3. Avoid accidental start-up. Make surethat the switch is in the OFF positionbefore plugging in.

4. Do not force tool. It will work mostefficiently at the rate for which it wasdesigned.

5. Keep hands away from moving partsand grinding surfaces.

6. Never leave a tool running unat -tended. Turn the power off and donot leave tool until it comes to acomplete stop.

7. Do not overreach. Keep proper footing and balance.

8. Never stand on tool. Serious injurycould occur if tool is tipped over.

9. Know your tool. Learn the tool’soperation, application and specificlimitations.

10. Use recommended accessories.Understand and obey all safetyinstructions supplied with accessories.The use of improper accessories maycause risk of injury to persons.

11. Do not over tighten wheel nut.acecracked wheel immediately. Use onlyflanges supplied with the grinder.

12. Adjust distance between wheel andtool rest to maintain 1/16” or less gap.

13. Handle the workpiece correctly.Whenever possible, use tool rest to

support workpiece during grindingoperation. Turn tool off if it jams.

14. Always use guards and eyeshields.

15. Clean grinding dust from beneathtool frequently.

AssemblyParts to be fastened to the unit shouldbe located and accounted for (See Listand Figure 1).

IMPORTANT: Do not attempt assemblyif parts are missing. Use this manual toorder repair parts.

TOOL REST ASSEMBLY

1. Place tool rest (D) over tool restbracket and secure in position with5/16” flat washer (E) and 5/16-18 x 1”knob (F).

2. Attach tool rest bracket to the bot-tom of the left wheel guard usingone 3/8-16 x 3/4” hex head bolt (A)and one 3/8” flat washer (B). Makesure that the slot of the bracket islocated over the raised boss on theguard. Tighten bolts finger tight.

3. Position tool rest so that distancebetween tool rest and grinding wheelis less than 1/16”. Reposition angle oftool rest if necessary. Secure all knobsand bolts.

4. Mount right tool rest in a similarmanner.

EYESHIELD ASSEMBLY

1. Attach spark guard (M) to left wheelguard using 3/8-16 x 1/2” knob (N),3/8” flat washer (B) and 3/8” lockwasher (K).

2. Mount left upper eyeshield bracket(H) to eyeshield (I) using two #10-24 x1/2” pan head screws (G) and lowereyeshield bracket (J).

NOTE: Left upper eyeshield bracket isstamped “L” for identification.

3. Slide 1/4-20 x 3/8” knob (L) throughhole at top of left spark guard (M)into upper eyeshield bracket (H) andsecure in position.

DUST COLLECTOR HOSE

A dust collector hose has been providedwith grinder. Slide hoses onto sides ofT-connector and flanges. Mount thehose by sliding the flanges at each endover the exhaust ports on the left andright wheel guards. Attach 2½” shopvacuum hose to collector hose. Be surehose is mounted securely.

Be sure to emptyshop vacuum of all

flammable material (flammable liquidsand vapors, paper, wood, plastic, etc.)before connecting vacuum to grinder.Hot sparks from grinder may igniteflammable materials in shop vacuum.

OPTIONAL LIGHTED EYESHIELD(MODEL 6X854)

Position eyeshield bracket assemblyover bosses provided on wheel guard.Bosses are tapped to receive two 1/4”-20 screws. Fasten bracket assembly towheel guard with two screws providedwith eyeshields.

InstallationMOUNT GRINDER

1. Mount grinder to a solid horizontalsurface (hardware not provided). Ifmounted to metal pedestal, alignmounting holes with correspondingholes in pedestal. Insert a 1/4-20 x1¼” hex head bolt with flat washerthrough base of grinder. From bot-tom of pedestal, place a 1/4” flatwasher and 1/4”-20 hex nut onto thebolt. Tighten only until spacebetween grinder base and pedestal is

1/8” (base should be flush for 2LKT2).Using second nut on each bolt, jamtighten against the first to preventloosening by vibration.

2. To mount grinder to wooden benchtop, use 1/4 x 1¼” wood screws withflat washers beneath heads. Tightenscrews until space between grinderbase and bench top is 1/8” (baseshould be flush for 2LKT2).

GROUNDING INSTRUCTIONS

Improper connectionof equipment

grounding conductor can result in therisk of electrical shock. Equipmentshould be grounded while in use to pro-tect operator from electrical shock.

Check with a qualified electrician ifgrounding instructions are not under-stood or if in doubt as to whether thetool is properly grounded.

This grinder is equipped with anapproved 3-conductor cord rated at300V and a 3-prong, grounding typeplug (See Figure 2) for your protectionagainst shock hazards.

Grounding plug should be pluggeddirectly into a properly installed andgrounded 3- prong grounding-typereceptacle (See Figure 2).

Do not remove or alter groundingprong in any manner. In the event of amalfunction or breakdown, groundingprovides a path of least resistance forelectrical shock.

Do not permit fin-gers to touch the

terminals of plug when installing orremoving from outlet.

Plug must be plugged into matchingoutlet that is properly installed andgrounded in accordance with all localcodes and ordinances. Do not modifyplug provided. If it will not fit in outlet,have proper outlet installed by a qualified electrician.

Inspect tool cords periodically, and, ifdamaged, have repaired by an authorized service facility.

Green (or green and yellow) conductorin cord is the grounding wire. If repairoracement of the electric cord or plug isnecessary, do not connect the green (orgreen and yellow) wire to a live termi-nal.

Where a 2-prong wall receptacle isencountered, it must beaced with aproperly grounded 3-prong receptacleinstalled in accordance with NationalElectric Code and local codes and ordinances.

This work should beperformed by a

qualified electrician.

A temporary 3-prong to 2-pronggrounding adapter (See Figure 3) isavailable for connecting plugs to a twopole outlet if it is properly grounded.

Do not use a 3-prong to 2-pronggrounding adapter unless permitted bylocal and national codes and ordinances.

Installation (Continued)(A 3-prong to 2-prong groundingadapter is not permitted in Canada.)Where permitted, the rigid green tab orterminal on the side of the adapter mustbe securely connected to a permanentelectrical ground such as a properlygrounded water pipe, a properlygrounded outlet box or a properlygrounded wire system.

Many cover plate screws, water pipesand outlet boxes are not properlygrounded. To ensure proper ground,grounding means must be tested by aqualified electrician.

EXTENSION CORDS

1. The use of any extension cord willcause some drop in voltage and lossof power.

2. Wires of the extension cord must beof sufficient size to carry the currentand maintain adequate voltage.

3. Running the unit on voltages whichare not within ±10% of the specifiedvoltage may cause overheating andmotor burn-out.

4. Use the table to determine the mini-mum wire size (A.W.G.) extension cord.

5. Use only 3-wire extension cords hav-ing 3-prong grounding type plugsand 3-pole receptacles which acceptthe tool plug.

6. If the extension cord is worn, cut or dam-aged in any way,ace it immediately.

ELECTRICAL CONNECTIONSAll electrical connec-tions must be per-

formed by a qualified electrician. Makesure tool is off and disconnected frompower source while motor is mounted,connected, reconnected or anytimewiring is inspected.

Motor and wires are installed as shownin wiring diagram (See Figure 4). Motoris assembled with approved, 3-conduc-tor cord to be used at 120/240 volts.Motor is prewired at the factory for 120volts.

To use the grinder with a 240V powersupply, have a qualified electricianrewire motor and attach a 240 volt, I5Athree-prong plug onto grinder line cord.

OperationAlways wear safetyglasses complying

with United States ANSI Z87.1 (shown

on package) before commencing powertool operation. Safety glasses are avail-able through your Grainger catalog.

1. Keep a steady, moderate pressure onthe work and keep it moving at aneven pace for smooth grinding.

2. Pressing too hard overheats themotor and prematurely wears downthe grinding wheels.

3. Note the original bevel angle on theitem to be sharpened and try tomaintain that angle. Sharpening acutting edge requires removing burrsfrom edge.

4. Deburring edge is done best by usingthe grinder to pull burr from edgeacross the bevel angle.

5. The grinding wheel should rotateinto object being sharpened.

6. Dip work into a coolant regularly toprevent overheating. Overheatingcan weaken metals.

Maintenance1. As wheels wear, tool rests should be

positioned closer to the face of thewheels.

2. The gap between the wheel and thetool rest should not be greater than1/16”. When the wheels are worn tothe extent that the 1/16” maximumgap cannot be maintained, thewheels should beaced.

3. Models 2LKR8 and 2LKR9:acementwheels should have a minimum ratedspeed of at least 3600 RPM.

Model 2LKT2:acement wheels musthave a minimum rated speed of 1800RPM.

4. Maximum wheel diameter is 7” for2LKR8, 8” for 2LKR9 and 10” for2LKT2.

Maintenance (Continued)5. To loosen nuts holding the wheels,

disconnect power and push a woodwedge between the tool rest and thewheel to keep the shaft from turn-ing. The threads on the right side of

the grinder (facing unit) are righthand; threads on the left side are lefthand. Tighten nuts securely beforeoperating the grinder.

6. For grinding efficiency, wheels shouldbe dressed periodically, especially if

they become clogged from grindingsoft metals. Dayton Grinding WheelDressers, Model 2X951 or 6Z851, arerecommended (See page 7).

Parte del polvoproducido por el

lijado mecánico, serrado, esmerilado,taladrado y otras tareas deconstrucción contiene sustanciasquímicas que se sabe que puedenocasionar cáncer, malformacionescongénitas u otros dañosreproductivos.

Algunos ejemplos de estas sustanciasquímicas son:

1. Plomo proveniente de pinturas conbase de plomo.

2. Sílice cristalino proveniente deladrillos, cemento y otros materialesde mampostería.

3. Arsénico y cromo proveniente demadera químicamente tratada.

El riesgo debido a la exposición aestas sustancias químicas depende dela frecuencia con la cual realice estetipo de trabajo. Para reducir laexposición a estas sustancias químicas:trabaje en un área bien ventilada yutilice equipo de seguridad aprobado.Cuando trabaje con este tipo deherramientas, siempre utilice unamáscara para la cara o respiradoradecuadamente ajustados,aprobados por OSHA/NIOSH.

ESTE PREPARADO PARA EL TRABAJO

1. Use ropa apropiada. No use ropasuelta, guantes, corbatas, anillospulseras u otras joyas que puedanquedar cogidas en las partes móvilesde la máquina.

2. Use una cubierta protectora para elcabello, para sujetar el cabello largo.

3. Use zapatos de seguridad con suelasantideslizantes.

4. Use gafas de seguridad, que cumplancon ANSI Z87.1 de Estados Unidos. Losanteojos corrientes tienen solamentelentes resistentes al impacto. NO sonanteojos de seguridad.

5. Use una máscara para la cara o unamáscara para el polvo, si la operaciónde lijado produce polvo.

6. Esté alerta y piense claramente.Nunca opere herramientas mecánicascuando esté cansado, intoxicado ocuando esté tomando medicamentosque causan mareos.

PREPARACION DEL AREA PARAEJECUTAR EL TRABAJO

1. Mantenga el área de trabajo limpia.Las áreas y bancos de trabajo desor -denados invitan a los accidentes.

2. No use herramientas mecánicas en ambientes peligrosos. No useherra mientas mecánicas en lugareshúmedos o mojados. No exponga lasherra mientas mecánicas a la lluvia.

3. El área de trabajo debe estariluminada adecuadamente.

4. El enchufe eléctrico adecuado tieneque ser enchufado directamente enun receptáculo de tres puntasconectado a tierra correctamente.

5. Los cordones de extensión deben teneruna punta de conexión a tierra y lostres alambres del cordón de extensióndeben ser del calibre correcto.

6. Mantenga a los visitantes a una dis -tancia prudente del área de trabajo.

DescripciónLas Esmeriladoras de Banco Dayton han sido equipadas con un motor de roda -mientos de bola totalmente encerrado. El conjunto de inducido ha sido balan -ceado dinámicamente para obtener una operación uniforme. La caja del motor escompacta de modo que se puedan presionar piezas de trabajo largas en contra deambas ruedas sin tocar el bastidor del motor. Las protecciones de las ruedas remo -vibles facilitan el cambio de éstas. Los soportes de la herramienta son ajustablessegún el desgaste de la rueda y el esmerilado en ángulo. Las esmeri la doras vienencompletas, con protecciones contra chispas, protecciones de seguri dad para los ojosy una manguera para la colección de polvo.

EL OPERADOR DEBE SABER COMOUSAR LA HERRAMIENTA

1. Use la herramienta correcta para eltrabajo. No fuerce la herramienta, oel accesorio, ni los use para untrabajo para el cual no han sidodiseñados.

2. Desconecte la energía de la herra mienta cuando cambie losaccesorios, tales como las ruedasrectificadoras, las ruedaspulimentadoras y otras por el estilo.

3. Evite el arranque por acccidente.Asegúrese que el interruptor esté enla posiciíon de OFF (apagado) antesde enchufarla.

4. No fuerce la herramienta. Trabajaráen la forma más eficiente a lavelocidad para la cual se diseñó.

5. Mantenga las manos alejadas de laspartes móviles y las superficies deesmerilado.

6. Nunca deje que una herramientafuncione sola. Desconéctela y no se vaya hasta que se detengacompleta mente.

7. No trate de alcanzar demasiado lejos.Manténgase firme y equilibrado.

8. Nunca se pare en la herramienta. Se pueden producir lesiones graves si la herramienta se inclina.

9. Conozca su herramienta. Aprenda suoperación, aplicaciones y limita -ciones específicas.

14. Siempre use las protecciones engeneral y las protecciones para losojos.

15. Limpie el polvo del esmerilado dedebajo de la herramienta frecuen -temente.

MontajeLas partes que se tienen que sujetar en la unidad tienen que ubicarse y es preciso verificar si se encuentran dis ponibles (Vea la lista en la Figura 1).

de modo que la distancia entre éste yla rueda esmeriladora sea de menosde 1,6 mm. Cambie la posición delángulo del soporte de la herramientasi es necesario. Asegure todas lasmanillas y todos los pernos.

4. Monte el soporte de la herramientaderecho en una manera similar.

CONJUNTO DE LA PROTECCION DE OJOS

1. Fije la protección contra chispas (M) ala protección de la rueda izquierdautilizando un perilla de 3/8-16 x 1/2pulg. (N), una arandela plana de 3/8pulg. (B) y una arandela de seguridadde 3/8 pulg. (K).

2. Instale el soporte de la protección paralos ojos superior izquierdo (H) en laprotección para los ojos (I) utilizandodos tornillos de cabeza hueca #10-24 x½ pulg. (G) y el soporte de laprotección para los ojos inferior (J).

AVISO: El puntal de la protección deojos superior izquierdo viene estampadocon la letra “L” para identifi cación.

3. Deslícela a través del orificio en laparte superior de la protección contrachispas izquierda (M) en el soporte dela protección para los ojos superior(H) y asegure en su posición.

4. Ubique la protección de ojos en laposición deseada para la proteccióndel operador y asegure todas lasmanillas y pernos.

5. Monte el conjunto de la protecciónde ojos derecho de una maneraparecida.

MANGUERA COLECTORA DE POLVO

Viene una manguera colectora de polvoincluida con la esmeriladora. Deslice lasmangueras en los lados del conector T yen las pestañas. Monte la mangueradeslizando las pestañas en cadaextremo sobre los orificios de escape, enla protección de la rueda del ladoizquierdo y la del lado dere cho. Adjuntela manguera de vacío del taller de 6,5cm a la manguera colec tora. Asegúreseque está montada en forma segura.

Asegúrese de va -ciar todos los

materiales inflamables (líquidos yvapores inflamables, papel, madera,plástico, etc.) de la aspiradora del tallerantes de conectarla a la esme riladora.Las chispas calientes de la esmeriladorapueden inflamar los materiales que seencuentran en ésta.

PROTECCION DE OJOS ILUMINADAOPCIONAL (MODELO 6X854)

Coloque el conjunto del puntal de laprotección de ojos en las protube ranciasque vienen en la protección de la rueda.Las protuberancias son rosca das paraaceptar dos tornillos de 1/4” - 20. Sujeteel conjunto del puntal en la protecciónde la rueda con los dos tor nillos quevienen con las protecciones de ojos.

InstalaciónMONTAJE DE LA ESMERILADORA

1. Monte la esmeriladora en una super -ficie horizontal sólida (no vienen losartículos de ferretería). Si viene mon -tada en un pedestal de metal, alineelos agujeros de montaje con los

agujeros correspondientes en elpedestal. Inserte un perno de cabezahexagonal de 1/4 - 20 x 1¼” con laarandela plana a través de la base dela esmeriladora. A partir de la parteinferior del pedestal, ponga unaarandela plana de 1/4” y una tuercahexagonal de 1/4” - 20 en el perno.Apriételos solamente hasta que elespacio entre la base de laesmeriladora y el pedestal sea de 3 mm (la base tiene que estar al raspara el 2LKT2). Use la segunda tuercaen cada perno, apriétela atas cándolaen contra de la primera para evitarque se pierdan debido a la vibración.

2. Monte la esmeriladora en la partesuperior del banco de madera,usando los tornillos de madera de 1/4x 1¼” con las arandelas planasdebajo de las cabezas. Apriete lostornillos hasta que el espacio entre labase de la esmeriladora y la partesuperior del banco sea de 3 mm (labase tiene que estar al ras para elmodelo 2LKT2).

INSTRUCCIONES PARA LA CONEXION A TIERRA

Si se conecta in-correctamente el

conductor de conexión a tierra delequipo, se puede producir un riesgo dechoque eléctrico. El equipo debe estarconectado a tierra mientras se estáusando, para proteger al operadorcontra un choque eléctrico.

Si las instrucciones para la conexión atierra no se entienden o si se tienendudas de que la herramienta estéconectada a tierra correctamente,consulte a un electricista calificado.

Este esmeriladora está equipado con uncordón aprobado de 3 conductores conpoencia nominal de 300V y un enchufede conexión a tierra de 3 puntas (Vea laFigura 2) para pro tegerse contra lospeligros de choque.

Instalación (Continuación)El enchufe de conexión a tierra se debeenchufar directamente en un receptá -culo de conexión a tierra de 3 puntas,conec tado a tierra e instalado correcta -mente (Vea la Figura 2).

No remueva ni altere la punta de co -nexión a tierra de ninguna manera. Enel caso de una falla o de una descargadisruptiva, la conexión a tierra propor -ciona el camino de menor resistencia al choque eléctrico.

No permita que los dedos toquen

los terminales o el enchufe cuando seestán instalando o removiendo deltomacorriente.

El enchufe se debe enchufar en el toma corriente correspondiente, que debeestar instalado correctamente y conec -tado a tierra según todos los códigos y reglamentos locales. No modifique elenchufe que se propor ciona. Si no calzaen el tomacorriente, haga que unelectricista calificado instale uno correcto.

Inspeccione los cordones de la herra -mienta periódicamente y, si estándañados, hágalos reparar por unservicio autorizado.

El conductor verde (o verde y amarillo)del cordón es el cable de conexión atierra. Si es necesario reparar o cambiarel cordón eléctrico o el enchufe, noconecte el cable verde (o verde yamarillo) a un terminal cargado.

Cuando se encuentra un receptáculo depared de dos puntas, se debe reemplazarpor un receptáculo de 3 puntas conecta -do a tierra correcta mente e instalado deacuerdo con los códigos y reglamentosdel Código Eléctrico Nacional y con loscódigos locales.

Este trabajo debe ser ejecutado por

un electricista calificado.

Se puede obtener un adaptador deconexión a tierra provisorio de 3 puntasa 2 puntas (Vea la Figura 3) para conec -tar los enchufes a un tomacorrientebipolar, si está conectado a tierracorrectamente.

No use un adaptador de conexión atierra de 3 puntas a 2 puntas a menosque sea permitido por los códigos yreglamentos locales y nacionales.

(En Canadá no se permite usar un adap -ta dor de conexión a tierra de 3 puntas a 2 puntas.) En donde está permitido, la lengüeta verde rígida o el terminalen el lado del adaptador debe estarconectado firmemente a una conexióna tierra eléctrica permanente, tal comouna tubería de agua conectada a tierracorrectamente, una caja detomacorrien te conectada a tierracorrectamente o un sistema de cablesconectado a tierra correctamente.

Muchos de los tornillos de la plancha decubierta, las tuberías de agua y las cajas de tomacorriente no están conectados atierra correctamente. Para asegurar unaconexión a tierra correcta, un electri -cista calificado debe probar los mediosde conexión a tierra.

CORDONES DE EXTENSION

1. El uso de cualquier cordón deextensión producirá cierta caída de voltaje y pér dida de energía.

2. Los cables del cordón de extensióntienen que ser del tamaño suficientecomo para conducir corriente ymantener el voltaje adecuado.

3. Si la unidad se hace funcionar avoltajes que no se encuentran dentrode ± 10% de la voltaje especificada sepuede producir un calentamientoexcesivo y se puede quemar le motor.

4. Use la tabla a continuación paradeter minar el cordón de extensióncon tamaño mínimo del cable (A.W.G).

5. Use cordones de extensión de 3 cables, con enchufes del tipo deconexión a tierra de tres puntas yreceptáculos de tripolares queacepten el enchufe de la unidad.

6. Si el cordón de extensión está desgas -tado, cortado o dañado en algunaforma, cámbielo inmediatamente.

CONEXIONES ELECTRICASTodas las conexiones eléctricas

tienen que sur hechas por unelectricista calificado. Asegúrese de quela herramienta esté apagada ydesconectada de la fuente de energíaeléctrica cuando monte, conecte, ovuelva a conectar el motor y cada vezque inspeccione el cableado.

El motor y los cables están instalados tal como se muestra en el esquema decableado (vea la Figura 4). El motor semonta con un cordón eléctrico apro -bado de tres conductores para uso con120/240 voltios. El motor viene de lafábrica cableado para 120 voltios.

Instalación (Continuación)Para utilizar la esmeriladora con unaalimentación de 240 V, haga que untécnico electricista calificado recablee elmotor y conecte un enchufe de trespuntas de 240 voltios y 15A amperios alcable de la esmeriladora.

OperaciónSiempre use gafas de seguridad que

cumplan con ANSI Z87.1 de EstadosUnidos (se muestra en el paquete),antes de empezar a operar la herra -mienta eléctrica. Puede obtener gafasde seguri dad a través de su catálogo de Grainger.

1. Mantenga una presión uniforme ymoderada en el trabajo y manténgalamoviéndose a una velocidad pareja

para obtener un esmerilado parejo.

2. Si se presiona demasiado, el motor se calienta demasiado y las ruedasrecti fi cadoras se desgastanprematura mente.

3. Fíjese en el ángulo de biselado origi -nal en el artículo que se va a afilar ytrate de mantener ese ángulo. El afi -lamiento de un borde de corte exigela remoción de las rebabas del borde.

4. La mejor manera de remover lasreba bas se logra si se usa laesmeriladora para retirarlas del bordea través del ángulo biselado.

5. La rueda rectificadora debe rotar enel objeto que se está afilando.

6. Sumerja el trabajo dentro de un en -fria dor regularmente para evitar quese caliente demasiado. El calenta -miento excesivo puede debilitar losmetales.

Mantenimiento1. A medida que las ruedas se des -

gastan, los soportes de la herra -mienta deben quedar colocados máscerca de la cara de las ruedas.

2. El espacio libre entre la rueda y elsoporte de la herramienta no debeser más grande de 1,6 mm. Cuandolas ruedas se han desgastado hastatal punto que no se puede mantenerel espacio libre máximo de 1,6 mm, espreciso cambiar las ruedas.

3. Modelos 2LKR8 y 2LKR9: Las ruedasde repuesto deben tener unavelocidad mínima nominal de por lomenos 3600 RPM.

Modelo 2LKT2: Las ruedas de re -puesto tienen que tener una velo -cidad mínima nominal de 1800 RPM.

4. El diámetro máximo de la rueda es de18 cm para el 2LKR8, 20 cm para el2LKR9 y 25 cm para el 2LKT2.

5. Para soltar las tuercas que sujetan lasruedas, desconecte la energía eléc -trica y empuje una cuña de maderaentre el soporte de la herramienta yla rueda para impedir que el eje gire.Las roscas del lado derecho de laesme riladora (de frente a la unidad)son de derecha; las roscas en el ladoizquierdo son de izquierda. Aprietelas tuercas en forma segura antes deoperar la esmeriladora.

6. Para mantener la eficiencia delesmerilado, las ruedas tienen que serafiladas periódicamente, especial -mente si se tapan cuando se esme -rilan materiales blandos. Serecomien dan las Afiladoras deRuedas Rectifi cadoras Dayton,Modelos 2X951 o 6Z851 (Vea laspáginas 9).
