Children Left Home AloneBeing home alone can be scary for kids and parents. The City Ordinance requires children to be at least 11 years
old. However, regardless of age, make sure your child is mature enough to follow these basic rules.Know their address and how to call 911 Know how to operate door & window locks and security systems
Insist they lock all doors and windows due to an increase in non-forced entry burglariesParents should install eye viewers at a level comparable to your children’s height and ask trusted neighbors tohelp watch your children. Sometimes criminals are looking for an empty residence to burglarize. If someone is atthe door, always look outside first. Let the person know someone is home by calling out through the locked door
– never open the door to a stranger. Ask them to go away and be prepared to call 911.
