• Never sit on the module counter top

• Do not move swivel chairs from one module to another location without permission.

General CT Lab Rules• Any item is dangerous when rules are not followed. Do

not leave any tools, out on a table or in a module.

• Other students expect their module or table to be ready to use when they come to class. Clean EVERYTHING off the countertops or tables tops BEFORE you leave.

• Pay attention to the time left in class! You must save time to store and save files of graphics and photos and to have enough time to clean up and safely store your project, tools, materials and equipment.

• Remember to take or remove all USB JUMP drives, Flash drives, digital cameras, extension cords, any type of cable and memory card readers from computers before you leave each day!

Safe Lab Habits

• NEVER climb up on a chair or counter to reach cabinets! USE the white step ladder.

• NEVER not threaten anyone or encourage someone to take action against you, regardless of his or her actions or words.

• NEVER run, jump, or engage in any horseplay in the technology lab. This behavior may cause damage to equipment or may cause injuries.

• NEVER lean back in chairs.

Utility Knives

• Utility knives should only be used to cut balsa wood, paper, cardboard or foam board. While the blades are extremely sharp, the blades are easily broken if they are used to cut materials other than the materials listed above.

• Utility knife blades become dull through normal use. Inspect the utility knives and immediately report any broken, chipped or cracked blades. If a knife no longer slices through material cleanly, inform the teacher for blade replacement.

Hobby Type X-ACTO KNIVES

Make sure blade is COMPLETELY INSERTED INTO KNIFE AND THE KNURLED KNOB IS TIGHT. You must return this type of knife and cap to Mr. Allen each day.

Utility knife

Do not attempt to open knife or change the blade! Report missing or damaged blades immediately!

When finished using utility knife, RETRACT blade into knife. Press and slide button ALL the way back to rear of knife.

CUTTING MATS• Make sure to put a cutting mat under any material you

are cutting to avoid damaging the surface of

countertops.

Sharing Tools

• Never toss, throw or pass scissors, knives, or any tool with a point to another student. Always set the tool down on the countertop and let the other person pick it up.

Paint

• Never use spray paint inside. The paint fumes are unhealthy and flammable. Do not paint against walls of building or on concrete sidewalks.

• Use a paint stick or drink box to place project in when possible.

• Quickly clean up paint spills with mineral spirits or paint thinner and a paper towel. Wash hands with soap and water after using paint thinner.

• Put sanding sealer and paint brushes in the brush container in the tall wall cabinet.

Foam Cutter

• Handle and operate the foam cutter with extreme care. The special wire can break easily and is also extremely HOT – it will burn you severely!

• Make sure the cutter is unplugged and the cutting wire is NOT broken when you arrive to the module.

Cameras

• Learn how to properly operate the digital still cameras before using. Be able to demonstrate functions on the camera you will be using.

• Pay attention to the correct way to insert SD memory cards into digital cameras and card readers.

Spot Lights

• Get the teacher’s approval to change light bulbs from spot lights each time you need to change the color.

• Spot lights become extremely hot. Do not touch the orange, yellow or silver housings.

• Turn the spot lights off when not using.

Power and Hand Tools

• Always get the teacher’s direct permission each and every time you need to operate power tools.

• You must watch the teacher’s demonstration how to use the tool correctly BEFORE using the tool!

• Pay attention to what you are doing! NEVER LOOK AWAY from the hand or power tool you are using.

• DO NOT talk to or distract anyone else using a hand or power-tool.

Safety Glasses

• EVERYONE must wear safety glasses or goggles when a power tool OR hand tool is being operated.

• Students must wear safety glasses or goggles when using super glue.

• Before using any type of saw, clamp the material to be cut in a vise.

• Before attempting to use a hand drill or drill press, clamp material down.

• Keep your hands or body away from the moving parts of electronic equipment or power tools. You could damage the equipment or injure yourself or someone else.

• Keep hands, hair and all clothing away from moving parts.

Solder Pencil

• When using the soldering pencil, do not lay it down on the countertop. Place it carefully in the coiled holder.

• Unplug the soldering pencil immediately after use.

• Turn off the multi-meter as soon as you are finished using it.

• Keep hands and fingers away from the sheet metal brake bender or the sheet shear.

• Wear gloves when handling aluminum or steel sheet the edges are extremely sharp

Bolt CuttersAlways wear safety glasses!

Always clamp materials in a vise before cutting.

Cut metal rod or tube only!

Return the bolt cutters to the specialty tools container or teacher’s desk when finished!

• NEVER CLOSE THE DOOR WITHOUT THE TEACHER’S DIRECT PERMISSION EACH TIME.

• DO NOT go into the ROBOTICS studio unless given direct permission from the teacher.

All Glue

• Replace the cap as soon as you are finished using ANY type of glue.

• DO NOT put glue bottles in clear containers!

• Put all bottles of wood glue in wall cabinet above wheelchair module.

SUPER GLUEYOU MUST WEAR GLOVES!

YOU MUST WEAR SAFETY GLASSES!!

YOU MUST HAVE A CUTTING MATT UNDER ANY MATERIAL YOU ARE GLUING TOGETHER!

The glue is very thin and pours out of the nozzle tip very quickly, squeeze the bottle gently!!!!

Put the cap back on the nozzle as soon as you are done using the glue!

Wood Filler and Putty

Used to fill in holes in foam and wood. It is NOT glue.

• Never unplug computers.

• Keep hands and objects away from outlets and surge protectors.

• DO NOT use any sand paper or shapers to smooth and shape wood or foam at a module or near computers. Use a cutting mat at a work table and carefully wipe shavings and dust into a trash can.

• Check the Green CIRCLE TEMPLATES during inventory and never bend or fold a template.
