Spring 2011 Pilot Program

ACE -- Actualize College Excellence – is a program designed to promote success for students in college. The program consists of 5-minute in class presentations and supplemental workshops for students to attend. One topic will be discussed each week, and topics include, among others, study skills, time management, note taking, goal setting and healthy lifestyles.

This program is based on a similar program at the College of the Canyons, but will be adapted to the students and community here at Sacramento City College.

The program objectives include: Promote one or more Success Tips a week into all of

our courses Increase awareness among faculty and students of

college success skills needed Encourage discussion and implementation of college

success skills in all classes Create student social and learning networks The program goals include: To increase our retention rate among students of

participating faculty, To increase our persistence rate among students of

participating faculty, and To increase our success rate among students of

participating faculty

Instructors 10 instructors teaching 24 sections in 5

disciplines participated in the project

Students 24 sections were surveyed (751 students) 15 sections were completed and returned 369 surveys were completed and

returned
