FERGUSON Modular, part of the Ferguson Group, specialist provid-ers of accommodation and workspace modules to the offshore energy industry around the world, recently invested in state-of-the art plant equipment to improve operations.
Ferguson Modular has made a significant investment in equipping its Kintore base with the latest tools to improve daily operations.
A brand new Combilift straddle carrier, the first to be implemented in North East Scotland, went into operation recently at Ferguson Modular. The equipment will improve the safety and efficiency when mobilising accommodation modules during loading/unloading.
The Combilift straddle carrier has a 35 tonne capacity and offers com-plete independence for the transportation of containers and similarly oversized loads.
It can lift fully loaded containers from the ground to trailer, from trail-er to trailer and can be used to stack modules.
Previously, moving accommodation units has involved a complex lo-gistical exercise including hiring a crane, completing lifting plans and utilising four specialist employees, and this all relied on a combination of standard forklifts and mobile cranes.
It meant that one single lift could take over an hour to complete in the past, which could be delayed further by bad weather.
The new plant equipment allows Ferguson Modular to eliminate costs associated with crane hire, and bad weather no longer delays opera-tions, with the loading/unloading process easily managed in a matter of minutes. The new Combilift straddle carrier will help Ferguson Modu-lar to improve efficiency and safety.
Graeme Bisset, Ferguson Modular hire manager, said: Having such a specialised piece of equipment will prove invaluable to Ferguson Mod-ular, streamlining the operation of moving expensive accommodation modules around the yard in a quick and efficient manner. We will now have a system to move accommodation and workspace modules around the site and onto delivery lorries safely, quickly and cost effectively.

Saudi Aramco and Sumitomo Chemical Company have formed a joint venture to expand the PetroRabigh integrated refinery and petrochemical complex at the Red Sea coast of Rabigh, Saudi Arabia.
The proposed scheme, known as PetroRabigh phase 2, includes the expansion of the ethane cracker and the construction of five petrochemical plants, an aromat-ics complex and an ethylene cracker debottlenecking
plant, along with atleast 15 downstream chemical pro-duction plants.
The current profile covers the construction of a me-thyl tertiary butyl ether (MTBE) plant as well as an acrylic acid and super absorbent polymer (SAP) plants. Project Status
As of May 2012, South Koreas GS Engineering & Construction has been awarded the EPC contract.Project scope
The scope of the project involves the construction of the following plants: Methyl tertiary butyl-ether/iso-butylene (MTBE/IB) plant; Methyl Methacrylate (MMA) plant; Metathesis plants; and Associated facilities.Project Schedules Feasibility Study Q2-2009Feed Q2-2009PMC Q2-2009EPC ITB Q2-2011EPC Q2-2012Completion Q1-2015
