SAXUM Technical Asisstance at SOBOCE for Kiln´s Hot Gas System Optimization

PROJECTS - SOBOCE

In the period March/May 2015, SAXUM developed a design for SOBOCE’s cement plant in Tarija, Bo-livia for the optimization of the gas conditioning system of the existing Fuller kiln. This is an old 170tpd kiln which originally had only one cyclone.

The gases emerging from the pyro-process do so at very high tempera-tures causing among other problems, blockages and vibrations in the fan. In addition, air is injected in an un-controllable manner into the system to reduce the temperature of the ex-haust gas until reaching a proper con-dition for the baghouse.

SAXUM performed a hot gas balance analysis and of the load loss for each section. Based on these studies, spe-cific modifications to the system were suggested aiming to improve pyro-process stability and production.

In parallel, other recommendations were made by SAXUM for different plant locations:

• Resizing of the process filter in Raw Mil 2.

• Evaluation of hot gases injection to Raw Mill 2.

• Evaluation of FLS kiln’s main filter

operation.• Sizing FLS kiln´s clinker cooler

new filter .• Recommendations for optimiza-

tion in the cement grinding.

SAXUM Pre-feasibility Study for HOLCIMIn 2011-2012 SAXUM performed a pre-feasibility study for HOLCIM with the objective to increase the clinker production of its Cantagalo Plant in Brazil.

HOLCIM operated a dry cement process in this plant with a clinker production of 1250 tpd and a much larger grinding capacity. HOLCIM wanted to upgrade the clinker pro-duction to fully utilize their grin-ding capacity without having to bring in clinker from their other plants in Brazil.

PROJECTS - Cantagalo

The scope of SAXUM service in this project was the evaluation of the feasibility to increase the clinker production by conside-ring different possible alterna-tives, the identification of the areas needing upgrades/impro-vements (in each alternative).

Also the selection of the opti-mum solution for clinker upgra-de, provide the conceptual engi-neering of the optimal solution, and the related CapEx/OpEx.
