Purpose of a PIRThere are three purposes for a Post-Implementation

Review:– To understand the extent to which the project met its

objectives, delivered benefits, and addressed the requirements originally defined

– To learn lessons from this project which can be used by the team and the organization to improve future projects

– To look at the overall effectiveness of all elements of the project to see if further improvements can be made

When Should I do a PIR?

• A PIR should be done no more than 2-9 months after the completion of the project

– It should allow enough time for benefits to be realized and results measured

– It should not allow so much time that the results cannot be used to assist other projects

Lessons Learned

• Now that we have looked at where we were successful in the project, and where we fell short, what have we learned?

• What can we do better in our next project? These are lessons learned. – Eg: Order materials at least 3 months in advance of

construction start up

• Lessons learned will help us make future projects more successful
