Structural Considerations
• Buildings are compliant with the National Structural Code of the Philippines (NSCP)
• Designs use available state of the art computer-aided software to find out any weak points in the structural design
• Buildings designed to resist up to magnitude 7.2 earthquakes
• Buildings have deflection (allowable movement)
• Buildings are made of reinforced concrete
![Page 3: Project Technical Orientation - DMCI Homes iBroker …dmcibrokers.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/10/Sales...Structural Considerations •Buildings are compliant with the National Structural](https://reader031.fdocuments.in/reader031/viewer/2022022511/5ae3c6e97f8b9a5d648e66b3/html5/thumbnails/3.jpg)
Soil Composition, Zoning, CAAP
• Soil composition varies from project to project
• Soil investigation is always done to find out the type of soil which is used as the basis for designing the right type of foundation
• Project developments also depend on the zoning classification, and clearance would still be obtained from the Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines
![Page 4: Project Technical Orientation - DMCI Homes iBroker …dmcibrokers.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/10/Sales...Structural Considerations •Buildings are compliant with the National Structural](https://reader031.fdocuments.in/reader031/viewer/2022022511/5ae3c6e97f8b9a5d648e66b3/html5/thumbnails/4.jpg)

Lumiventt Technology
• It basically means the free flow of natural light and ventilation achieved through three-storey high openings on the front and back of the towering buildings called Sky Patios and through the breezeways located on the left and right wing of every floor. The openings allow fresh air to flow in and also allow stale or hot air to be displaced and sucked out.

Earthquake Considerations• DMCI Homes follows the National Structural Code of
the Phils. (NSCP)
• The NSCP has strict regulations based on a 7.2 magnitude earthquake
• Our projects can resist a magnitude 7-8 earthquake
• Buildings are designed to “move” (deflection)
![Page 36: Project Technical Orientation - DMCI Homes iBroker …dmcibrokers.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/10/Sales...Structural Considerations •Buildings are compliant with the National Structural](https://reader031.fdocuments.in/reader031/viewer/2022022511/5ae3c6e97f8b9a5d648e66b3/html5/thumbnails/36.jpg)
Earthquake Q&A by Engr. Brian Tan
• Can earthquakes be predicted?
No, we cannot predict when an earthquake will occur. However, if we know where faults are located then we can say where an earthquake may occur.
![Page 37: Project Technical Orientation - DMCI Homes iBroker …dmcibrokers.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/10/Sales...Structural Considerations •Buildings are compliant with the National Structural](https://reader031.fdocuments.in/reader031/viewer/2022022511/5ae3c6e97f8b9a5d648e66b3/html5/thumbnails/37.jpg)
Earthquake Q&A
• What is the intensity of an earthquake?
Intensity is a description of the effect of an earthquake in a particular location. It depends on:
1. Magnitude
2. Epicenter
3. Focus
4. Soil condition
![Page 38: Project Technical Orientation - DMCI Homes iBroker …dmcibrokers.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/10/Sales...Structural Considerations •Buildings are compliant with the National Structural](https://reader031.fdocuments.in/reader031/viewer/2022022511/5ae3c6e97f8b9a5d648e66b3/html5/thumbnails/38.jpg)
Earthquake Q&A
• What is the magnitude of an earthquake?
The amount of seismic energy released during an earthquake
• What is the difference between ‘magnitude’ and ‘intensity’?
Magnitude tells you how strong an earthquake was while intensity tells you how strong the earthquake was felt in your location.
![Page 39: Project Technical Orientation - DMCI Homes iBroker …dmcibrokers.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/10/Sales...Structural Considerations •Buildings are compliant with the National Structural](https://reader031.fdocuments.in/reader031/viewer/2022022511/5ae3c6e97f8b9a5d648e66b3/html5/thumbnails/39.jpg)
Earthquake Q&A• Is there a maximum magnitude for an earthquake?Magnitude depends on the length of a fault, the longer the rupture length, the higher the magnitude.• Are buildings in Manila designed for an earthquake? If the building is designed in accordance with the NSCP, then the building can resist earthquakes.• Is it true that the West Valley Fault (WVF) can generate magnitude 9
earthquakes? No, the WVF is fairly short and the maximum magnitude it is estimated to produce based on its lengths ranges from 6.5 to 7.2 magnitude.
![Page 40: Project Technical Orientation - DMCI Homes iBroker …dmcibrokers.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/10/Sales...Structural Considerations •Buildings are compliant with the National Structural](https://reader031.fdocuments.in/reader031/viewer/2022022511/5ae3c6e97f8b9a5d648e66b3/html5/thumbnails/40.jpg)
Earthquake Q&A
• Is it safe to live in condominiums and in what ways has DMCI Homes made its residential communities (old and new) safe against earthquakes?
Yes it is safe because DMCI follows the NSCP provisions and they are building structures according to the plan (structural design).
![Page 41: Project Technical Orientation - DMCI Homes iBroker …dmcibrokers.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/10/Sales...Structural Considerations •Buildings are compliant with the National Structural](https://reader031.fdocuments.in/reader031/viewer/2022022511/5ae3c6e97f8b9a5d648e66b3/html5/thumbnails/41.jpg)
Earthquake Q&A
• Is there a possibility for sinkholes on some areas, especially near fault lines?
No, sinkholes occur when the roofs of cavernous limestone formations collapse. Metro Manila does not have limestone and so not have caverns or cavities.
![Page 42: Project Technical Orientation - DMCI Homes iBroker …dmcibrokers.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/10/Sales...Structural Considerations •Buildings are compliant with the National Structural](https://reader031.fdocuments.in/reader031/viewer/2022022511/5ae3c6e97f8b9a5d648e66b3/html5/thumbnails/42.jpg)
Thank you!
