Project Reports
Deal with plans for or results of a project
Different from essays in that organized by headings
Often preceded by letter of transmittal
Oral Component
project report assignments will include oral-presentation component worth 25% of overall assignment
oral-component grade will be fixed grade in sense that each written project report, although graded individually, will receive same oral-presentation grade awarded to “team”
oral presentations will be max. of 15 mins.
Teamwork next couple weeks will involve teamwork
approach to class material teams will consist of two to four people teamwork contribution to project-report
assignments should be acknowledged in transmittal letter
results of teamwork should be included in project report either as subcategory of “Discussion” or separate category preceding “Conclusions”
Teamwork Preparation
upon initial meeting as team discuss individual strengths/weaknesses (e.g., who’s good writer, problem solver, public speaker)
designate one member as “team head” who’ll keep things organized and will assess team progress from time to time
team head is responsible for choosing team’s “note taker” and “speaker,” and keeping eyes open for slackers
Teamwork Procedure
teams will deal with two classic tales over next couple of weeks by E.A. Poe (1809 - 1849): U.S. writer, poet, thinker, journalist, and eclectic man of genius interested in both artistic and scientific questions and problems
teams may also deal with topics relevant to engineering studies but should leave enough time to deal with Poe’s work too
