HISTORY & DEVELOPMENT

The story of Samrat Namkeen is sweet and simple.

It began as a small home-made eatables unit at

SwaminarayanTemple,NarayaGhat, Ahmedabad,Gujarat, INDIA

Wafers Sevs, Bhujias, Daals, Chavana, Cheevda .made in ancient gastronomic

traditions of Gujarat. The tastes were irresistible, the products are fresh, and the packing is

hygienic. Customers responded enthusiastically. And in the following years, the company

evolved continuously, dictated by customer demands and market trends.

1979. Mr. Jayshankar S. Vaid was young, and his mind was brimming with ideas of

enterprise.Through the week, he gathers information around for an entrepreneurial break. He

visited and studied various industries weigh pros and cons. On weekends, Jayshankar indulge

in what most of his friends thougt was an unusual hobby making Namkeens.

On those days, he had turned his kitchen into a virtual R&D lab for his experiments in

Namkeens. Later, he relish (enjoy) these with his family and friends.

Then one day, in a moment dictated by destiny, the thought struck him: why not turn

the hobby into a business? After all, everyone likes to eat good things. Thus began

Jayshankar's life as a Namkeen manufacturer.

He was a modest man, but named his product 'Samrat', meaning 'King / Emperor’,

because he was confident of its taste value. He himself prepared the Namkeens, packs them

and supplied to homes nearby. There was no way that such conviction could lose.

Today, he employs more than 210 people and more than 28 sumptuous fooditems are

marketed under the Samrat brand. Today, he has taste experts, foods scientists, management

Page 11: Project on Training in Samrat Namkeeentechshristi

veterans (long experience), and a network of marketing channels, to take the Samrat brand far

and wide. But there is one aspect of his business that he still directly controls -- QUALITY.

And this is the reason why Samrat products still retain their home-like crunchy taste and

freshness. & that’s why it has given a tag name as a GHAR JASIE HIENAMKEEN . And

this is the reason of Jayshankar S. Vaid's success.

RATIO ANALYSIS

(1) CURRENT RATIO = CUREENT ASSETS / CUREENT LIABILITY

FOR 2005-06 = 23563728 / 18431456

=1.28:1

FOR 2006-07 = 31971844 / 19641742

= 1.63:1

FOR 2007-08 = 33241621 / 18762524

= 1.77:1

CONCLUSION:

Current ratio indicates the working capital position. There has been

considerable deterioration in current ratio. Current ratio is calculated to see short-term

financial position of company. As per above calculation liquid position of company is

better in year by year. Because in 2006 company having current assets of 1.28 and

2007 of 1.63 and in 2008 of 1.77 to pay liability of 1.

Page 63: Project on Training in Samrat Namkeeentechshristi

(2) PROPRIETARY RATI = PROPRIETARY FUND/TOTAL

ASSETS * 100

FOR 2005-06 = 2547221 / 24835395 *100

= 10.26%

FOR 2006-07 = 4616120 / 35222117 * 100

= 13.11%

FOR 2007-08 = 6384781 / 36369490 * 100

= 17.56%

CONCLUSION:

This ratio indicates the amount of capital contributed by the proprietors. The

higher the ratio stronger the financial position of company. The ratio during 2006 is

10.26% which has gone up in 2007 with 13.11% and during 2008 it is gone up to

17.56% so company financial position is in growth.

Page 64: Project on Training in Samrat Namkeeentechshristi

(3) LIQUID RATIO = LIQUID ASSETS / LIQUID LIABILITY

Where, Liquid assets = current assets – stock

Liquid liability = current liability – bank overdraft

FOR 2005-06 = 23563728 – 10846357 / 18431456 – 0

= 12717371 / 18431456

= 0.69:1

FOR 2006-07 = 31971844 – 19793781 / 19641742

= 12178063 / 19641742

= 0.62:1

CONCLUSION:

The liquid ratio is a better indication of liquid position of the company and

shows whether the company will be able to meet its current obligation due for

immediate payment at a short notice. It is believed that liquid assets should at least

cover the liquid liability i.e. the ratio should be 1:1 the ratio for this company during

2006 in 0.69:1 and during 2007 in 0.62:1 during 2008 in 0.68:1 which is

unsatisfactory of the company.

Page 65: Project on Training in Samrat Namkeeentechshristi

(4) ACID TEST RATIO = QUICK ASSETS / LIQUID LIABILITY

Where, Quick Assets = Cash + Bank

FOR 2005-06 = 319892 / 18431456

= 0.017:1

FOR 2006-07 = 171939 / 19641742

= 0.008:1

FOR 2007-08 = 415467 / 18762524

= 0.02:1

CONCLUSION:

Acid test ratio is useful to measure absolute liquidity 0.5:1 is a very exacting

standard of liquidity. Above calculated ratio of last three year indicates a danger

signal. It suggests that immediate steps should be taken to increase quick assets.

Page 66: Project on Training in Samrat Namkeeentechshristi

(5) TOTAL ASSETS TURNOVER RATIO = SALES / TOTAL ASSETS

FOR 2005-06 = 31947574 / 24835395

= 1.29

FOR 2006-07 = 51331097 / 35222117

= 1.46

FOR 2007-08 = 66979224 / 36369490

= 1.04

CONCLUSION:

This ratio is important to know the over all efficiency of the business during

2006 the ratio was 1.29 has been gone up during 2007 1.46 and at last year 2008 it is

down to 1.04 so it shows that the amount of instrument in total assets are down of the

company.

Page 67: Project on Training in Samrat Namkeeentechshristi

(6) FIXED ASSETS TURNOVER RATIO = SALES / FIXED ASSETS

FOR 2005-06 = 31947574 / 1243567

= 25.69

FOR 2006-07 = 51331097 / 3222173

= 15.94

FOR 2007-08 = 66979224 / 3099769

= 21.61

CONCLUSION:

This ratio is important to know the over all efficiency of the business. The

above three-year ratio indicated that the ratio is very high means the fixed assets are

being used effectively.
