Project Report On Information System Used At Sugandh Shoppe, BijapurEXECUTIVE SUMMARYIndustries in our modern day are facing tremendous pressures like society conformation, technology innovation and market competition. An organization has to initiate goodwill responses, improve their technological platform and invent systems to automate their operational processes. These are efforts contributed to retain their competitive edge thus preserving their existence. The challenge of retailing is to strike the balance between cost optimization and maintaining the level of service. Technology has become the basic fabric of the retailing industry today. Perhaps the most important fact is that retailers who do not understand the ways to use technology for competitive advantage will be left out in the competition. Sugandh Shoppe is one of the most preferred retail outlet in Bijapur city and it has a large base of loyal customers of traditional retail since 1915. The study is undertaken to understand the applications of information technology at Sugandh Shoppe. This study is an effort to understand the applications of information technology in the modern retail industry, and recommending some suggestions like automation of process to the company. At present, the head office and the retail store keep interacting manually through internet, via Team viewer. In order keep an update of the daily transactions and item masters. Its a time consuming activity, which involves, telephonic converations and which adds to cost of routine maintenance. As per our study, we recommend to setup an FTP server at the Head office and provide the links using dynamic DNS, which is free of cost. The retail stores can directly connect to the FTP server and upload their daily transactions and other reports to the Head office. This facility can be made available to all the other stores. A detailed process of the implementation is discussed in the project.

CONCLUSION: After examining the current system working, we conclude that the existing system is up to date for their business purpose. But as per their future requirements or expectation, they should also think of upgrading their current information system. Basic operational information systems like Computerized Inventory Management, Point of Sale Systems are just to name a few, will be with every player in this sector. The key challenge will be to source, develop those information systems which will have both backward and forward integration capabilities. They should have to upgrade themselves with new technologies to cater the changing needs of the consumers in Retail industry. Need of the hour is to have that the visibility of this convergence by retailers and before treading on the path of any technology upgrades, they foresee the integration challenges.
