iPhone Apps

Whereever project managers go, PMs can have accessto their project world through iPhone apps. Many ofthese apps or similar apps may be found for Androidphones.

Calendar.Calendar. Meetings, meetings, and more meetings.Where would I be without my Calendar app? The appallows me to check times, locations, and attendees whileoutside of my office. I can quickly check participant’savailability and schedule a meeting.Camera.Camera. I often use Write On - Cling On Sheets or awhite marker board during my project meetings. Afterthe meeting, I take photos of the notes. Minutes arecompleted from the photos.Kindle for iPhone.Kindle for iPhone. I buy most of my books using thewww.pmsouth.com 7

one-click option in Amazon. I rarely buy a hard copybook. Why? First, I get great discounts on most books.Second, I can mark pages with bookmarks, highlight indifferent colors, and make notes in the book. Third,Kindle allows you to filter and find things by Bookmarks,Notes, or different Color Highlights. The search featurealso allows the reader to find particular words or phrases.Feedly.Feedly. Feedly is one place to store, read, and share whatmatters to you. Feedly provides a nice, clean interface.Add the feeds of articles you wish to read. I havecategories such as Project Management, Leadership,Business Analysis, and Risk Management.Evernote.Evernote. This is one of my favorite apps! Think of it asyour personal storage system. I use Evernote’s Clippertool to store articles to Evernote. Evernote provides asimple but powerful tagging system that allows me to tagarticles for quick filter and retrieval (e.g., Tags: Blogging,ERM, Project Risk Management, Public Speaking,Software Development). I also use Evernote to recordvoice notes, take and save photos, send emails toEvernote with file attachments (e.g., Word docs or .pdffiles), retrieve and read articles and perform research.Messages.Messages. I text team members for a variety of reasons.For example, if I see that I am going to be late for ameeting - I send a quick text. I sometimes take a picturewith the Camera and send the picture through text withcomments.www.pmsouth.com 8

Google Maps.Google Maps. When traveling, I use Google Maps to finddestinations. I also use Maps when completing myexpense reports to find out the distance of the trip.Weather Channel.Weather Channel. I use the Weather Channel app tocheck the weather as I plan trips.Pandora.Pandora. I enjoy listening to music while preparingpresentations, writing reports, or catching up on emails. Ilisten to soothing music.Digits.Digits. If you need a nice ease-to-use calculator, give thisa try. You can add numbers, make notations besidenumbers, and email the calculator tape.LastPass.LastPass. I have tried different password protectionprograms. LastPass is my favorite. I have lots of userIDsand passwords. I have organized everything intocategories (e.g., Favorites, Work, Family) for easy, quickaccess.LinkedIn.LinkedIn. I am an avid LinkedIn user. I participate in anumber of project management and risk managementLinkedIn Groups. I enjoy sharing with others andlearning from others.Twitter.Twitter. I use the desktop version of Twitter most of thetime. However, when I am in remote locations, I turn tomy phone to send and read tweets about projectmanagement.Stitcher.Stitcher. Listen to podcasts on your iPhone, iPad,Android or PC -anytime, anywhere.www.pmsouth.com 9

Pomodoro.Pomodoro. I recently discovered the Pomodoro conceptsand app. If you find yourself easily distracted andwasting much of your day, check this out. I have foundPomodoro particularly helpful for improving my studyhabits. Watch this video for more information.

LinkedIn

LinkedIn has many project management Groups. Picka few Groups and participate in the Discussions. Youwill learn from the best around the globe.
