    Four Phases ofImplementation

    Conceptualization phase

Conceptualization phase, which is the first

phase, the first task is to identify need, that is to establish that the project isrequired and what the final requirement is.

The second task is to establish feasibility,or can the project attain its goal withouttoo much time, effort and financial outlay.

Conceptualization Phase Next the project manager must identify the

alternatives, and weigh the costs associatedwith each against their effectiveness.

A proposal must be prepared to inform theclient of the projects parameters andlimitations, and then a basic budget andschedule can be prepared.

The final task in the conceptualization phaseis to identify the project team, selecting themost effective people for the job.

    Planning phase

The planning phase will require a higherlevel of effort.

A schedule must be implemented to beginthe planning phase.

After the schedule is implemented, the

project team begins conducting studiesand analyses.

    Planning Phase

This will establish the framework of the project, and supply information.

Once the research has been assembled, asystem can be designed. From there, theproject team begins to build and test prototypesof the project. Once the results of these tests

have been analyzed, approval for production isobtained,

and one final model is chosen.

    Execution phase

We are now at the peak of our level ofeffort, the execution phase begins.Materials necessary for implementation

must be procured, and the relevant toolsmust be developed and tested.

Support requirements must bedeveloped, and the system must be

produced. Once the results of the systemimplementation have been verified, andmodified as necessary, we enter thetermination phase.

    Termination phase

The termination phase begins withthe training of functional personnel,

the ones who will maintain thesystem after it is in place.

Once the maintenance personnel arein place, they will be transferred

relevant materials, andsubsequently, responsibility for thesystem performance

    Termination phase

At this point all relevant resourceswill be released, and project team

members will be reassigned. Theproject has now become a self-sustaining system.

    What is Multimedia

Multimedia is the seamlessintegration of text, sound, images of

all kinds and control software withina single digital informationenvironment. (Tony Feldman, Multimedia Consultant)

    Building The Project Team

    Graphic Designer:

    Design and develop computer graphics.

Script Writer:Create and document the scripts, storyboards, and

    explanatory notes.

Audio/Video Production:Create and merge the audio, sound effects, and

    video personnel and graphics.

    Building The Project Team

    Author:

Integrate the text, graphics, and video

    presentation into organized sequences with

the aid of a computer-base authoring tool.

    Subject Experts:

Provide specialist inputs for the development of thecontent, and monitor the production of the content to meet

    the objectives

    Building The Project Team

    Programmer:

Design special routines in a general-purpose

language to support or extend the application.

    Analyzing The Needs

    Identify the needs

    State Objectives

    1. Is multimedia a better approach than the existingone in meeting the course objectives?

    2. Will the programme involve active interactionbetween the users and the media?

    3. Will the users be involved in the evaluation processwhich provides the necessary feedback?

    Producing The Media

Select media and determine the type ofpresentation

    1. What multimedia components will be included? Will itincludes graphic images, animation, narration or sound?

    2. What quality of media is expected? Colour and resolution ofdisplay? Quality of music and sound effects?

    3. Will sufficient technical resources and support available forthe development of the programme?

    4. What kind of computers is available for running the

application? (Size and color capability of monitors, availableRAM and hard disk space.)

    5. Are there any other hardware requirements, including soundcards, CD-ROM drives, or video players?

    Authoring

Design and integrate the media using

    Authoring Tools

The task is to incorporate the variouscomponents of multimedia in a logicalsequence of learning events using suitableauthoring software.

This is a big task requiring considerablecreative input and technical know-how in theuse of the software.

    Authoring

    Design interactive links

    1. What information is on screen?

    2.

How can the user respond? (eg. by clicking themouse on a button or pressing a particular key onthe keyboard, or by typing a correct entry ordragging a movable object on screen)

    3. When the user gives the right answer, what kind of

    feedback will appear on screen?

What path will the application follow next?

    Evaluate the deliverables

The final authoring phase provides the firstopportunity to review the application before itwill be delivered.

Using the runtime programme, each sectioncan be evaluated by the designers, peers, andselected members of the target audience. There is still time to act on their suggestions

and smooth out the last wrinkles before theapplication is subject to final validation.
