Project (RED)Red, as a very symbolic colour, has a long history of

meanings. It is inspiring in the sense that it is also a

very ambiguous term or adjective.

This experimental project is an attempt to draw

a cultural map of Hong Kong youngsters via

a series of research and multi-media creative

projects through one inspiring theme “RED”. We

aim to bridge the mental gaps between various

generations, culture and educational backgrounds.

Supported by the Hong Kong Arts Development

Council and Goethe Institut Hongkong, “RED” is

an ongoing project since mid-2007. It comprises

of a sequence of activities starting off with (a) a

creative workshop on red, followed by (b) video

shooting events, (c) a documentation of interviews,

and (d) cultural exchange with foreign artists.

Entering into 2009, we come to the stage of

showcasing the our creative outcome : the Project

<RED> exhibition.

紅，一種富象徵性的顏色，自古以來就

充滿著意義。它可以是一個模糊的個體

或形容詞，而這就是它的啟發性。

這是一個實驗企劃，以「紅」為題，透

過一系列的研究及多媒體項目，來塑造

出香港新一代的文化地圖，把不同年

代，不同文化，不同學術背景之間的精

神距離連結起來。

「紅」是一個行進中的創作計劃，由香

港藝術發展局及香港歌德學院全力支

持。自2007年起，我們舉辦過關於紅

的創意集會，錄像事件，訪問紀錄及和

外國藝術家的文化交流。

踏入2009年，我們終於來到一展創

作收成的時候 --- 殷赤緋丹紅 Project

Winnie Fu is curator of Project <RED> and organized a series of creative

workshops and cultural exchange activities under this project since May

2007. She works for the Hong Kong Film Archive as Programmer and is

currently project director of Microwave International New Media Art

Festival and Ein-stein Workshop.

An exercise to experience the colour RED and to feel its complexion, texture and to establish a

dialogue with the colour WHITE. Performed on Jan 11, 2009 at Tai Tam, Hong Kong.

Gerd Conradt is a director, film and video artist, producer and musician based in Berlin. He sees his

video films as conceptional images of the times and as portraits. In the field of educational media

work, he has made 50 “Poetry Videos” together with young people and assembled programmes on

city related themes from an artistic standpoint, for example “blik.berlin.dok” ( 2000 ). During the

last 10 years he has also shown a particular interest in non-European cultures, and has been on

research trips to India, Siberia and China.

Winnie Fu got to know Gerd Conradt in 1996 when he brought the music group Yatka from Tuva

to Hong Kong during the Hong Kong Asian Arts Festival. She saw Conradt’s RED FLAG COLOUR TEST

in Berlin and Venice Biennial and decided to work on a new version in Hong Kong.

Gerd Conradt 是駐柏林的電影/錄像藝術家、導演、監製及音樂人。他視他的錄像作品為

概念化的時代影像和肖像。他曾與年青人創作了50套 “Poetry Videos”，並集合城中的藝術

活動，如“blik.berlin.dok” ( 2000 )。過去十年，他醉心於非歐洲文化，並曾到印度，西伯

利亞及中國作研究之旅。

傅慧儀 於1996年一偶然機會認識Gerd Conradt，那年他把音樂團體Yatka 由圖瓦帶來香

港參加香港亞洲藝術節。她看過 Conradt 在柏林和威尼斯雙年展的 RED FLAG COLOUR TEST

後，便決定要在港作一個新的版本。

CHINA 66

Many years ago, I discovered a Super 8 film made by my grandfather as an amateur during a

professional journey in China during the Cultural Revolution. I took hold of this exceptional object

to bring it back 40 years later on its original sites. My intention was to propose to the people I

met to look at the 1966 film with the help of a DVD player, to ask them to react and to confront

these images from their past with the ones from contemporary China. My questionning and my

« inquiry » were about topography and memories of sites where the film was shot, and about the

individual and collective memory. This work took the form of a video installation in 3 screens.

多年前，我發現了我祖父在文化大革命期間到中國旅行時拍攝的超八米厘影片。我帶著

這特殊的物件，於40年後重回它的原址。目的是找沿途的人去看這套記錄，要他們與現

今中國作對照並記錄他們的反應。我的疑問在於地誌，存留於當地的記憶，以及個人和

集體回憶。這是一件三屏幕的錄像作品。

Maeva Aubert was born in Paris. After studying Art History and Aesthetics

at the Sorbonne, she lived several years in New York where she studied Film

Directing at Brooklyn College and at Film Video Art. She was a regular at

Anthology Film Archives, while curating and working on her own films

as « Loisada, Avenue C » ( 2004 ), a 52 mm experimental documentary on a

community garden in NYC. She lives in Marseille ( France ) where she’s a free

lance curator in film and video art in parrallel to her video art work.

Maeva Aubert 生於巴黎。在索邦大學修畢藝術史及美學後，她遷至紐

約並在布魯克林學院修讀電影導演及錄像藝術。她曾於Anthology Film

Archives工作，同時籌備一部關於公眾花園的52米厘實驗電影 « Loisada,

Avenue C » ( 2004) 。Aubert現時居於馬賽，為自由身策展人及錄像藝術家。

RedemptionRed makes me think of Red Cross and their work in rescue which is an area

of work very close to death. I travelled a lot to China in the past years as still

photographer and observed how the apparent “alienation” and “apathy” among

the new generation. Last year’s traumatic earthquakes in Szechuan seemed

to have awakened the lost humanity in many and from that standpoint, the

deaths served to redeem the living.

紅令我想起紅十字會，和他們與死亡非常接近

的拯救工作；而十字架是代表耶穌基督，祂用

血及犧牲來救贖世人。過去數年，我因工作

穿梭中國，充分感受到新生代的疏離和冷漠。

然而去年四川地震的悲劇彷彿喚醒了失去的人

性。我看到的，是死亡救贖了存活。

Red Tide

As the financial tsunami hit the economies terribly all around the globe,

our mankind are still trying to survive and face their day to day living.

Negatively, it is harsh, painful and full of uncertainty in reality under pressure;

Positively, it is challenging, cheerful and full of hope for the better days to come.

Thankfully, we are still alive and healthy to break through more tsunamis.

當金融海嘯席捲全球，人們均努力地面對每天

的生活。從負面看，這是殘酷，悲痛和充滿未

知性的壓力；正面看來，這是一個挑戰，意味

著更好的日子將會來臨。可幸的是，我們仍健

and playing through out his life till this point... yet he is still playing....

Franky is a videographer who has involved in numerous documentaries

& media projects including, Jumping Frames & Microwave International

Media Art Festival for Videotage;

He has taken a cinematography course in the Beijing Film Academy prior

to his return to Hong Kong. He establishes Cubic Space to further his

exploration on video possibilities.

Magdalen Wong received her BFA in General Sculptural Studies at Maryland Institute College

of Art, 2003 and her MFA in Sculpture with a Trustee Merit scholarship at the School of the Art

Institute of Chicago, 2005. She had also attended the Salzburg Summer Academy with the 2005

Hayward Prize of the Salzburg Stiftung from the American Austrian Foundation. Ms. Wong is a

member of the i.e. artist group, based in the United States, in which she collaborates with six other

artists in organizing art events and exhibitions internationally. Apart from the artist group, she

had participated in group shows and performances internationally. Currently, Wong is a lecturer

at the Academy of Visual Arts, Hong Kong Baptist University.

黃頌恩 於2003年在馬里蘭藝術學院獲取藝術學士學位，2005年獲芝加哥藝術學院頒發

藝術碩士學位。她曾參加奧地利的薩爾茨堡國際夏季學院的課程，並獲 美國奧地利聯會

頒發2005 Hayward Prize of the Salzburg Stiftung。作為美國藝術家組合「i.e.」的一份

子，她與另外六位藝術家致力於各地籌辦藝術活動及展覽，亦多次在香港及美國參與聯

HiddenI used to think that the colour red is very “out” and cliché, but lately discovered

that it is a colour that dominates our lives. This work attempts to find out a

few things red that link me up with my family – a search to prove my existence

and to reevaluate them. 以前總感到紅色很 “娘”“老套”，但發覺到

不知不覺間她已操控著我們的生活，今欲找出

隱藏在生命中，連繫著家人的一點紅，藉此尋

回我們曾經存在的軌跡，珍而重之。

Suitcase on the RoadI published my first creative novel titled Cat That Can Read Maps in June 2006,

which tells the stories of a 25-year-old girl called RED that travelled to many

cities and grow as her cross-border encounters accumulates. This suitcase

project is a post-script to the story of RED.

我於2006年出版了首部創作小說《會看地圖的

貓》（與黃穎賢合著），其中女主角傅紅是個

愛地圖和遊歷的女孩。她隨著越界而成長，這

個小紅皮匧的作品，可算是《會看地圖的貓》

的延續。

Blood SculptureI think “Red” is an art activity for me. A year ago, I knew that I was going to jump into

another work field and I want to keep a promise and passion to myself and I have to

do something for myself. “Red” take me back to the field, it is a place which can make

me pleased. Two years ago, I have done a sculptural exercise, I discover an organic

material call “Gelatin”. It is one of the substance for the cake making. I found the

texture, color and tension are so different from other sculpture materials which we

usually use. I found this material is really interesting to me. I am going to use this

material to form something and see what it can do. Finally, I want to keep myself to

do art during this activity.

我想「紅」於我而言說是一項藝術活動。一年前，當我知道我將躍進另一

個工作範疇時，我希望可以保持著一份熱情和一個承諾，去為自己做一點

東西。是「紅」把我帶回這裡，一個令我愉悅的國度。

早在兩年前，我做了一個雕塑練習，發現一種名為「凝膠」的有機物料，

那是用來造蛋糕的。而這物料的質感，顏色和張力都有別於一般雕塑所用

的素材。我希望探索這物料的可塑性，並透過此行動延續我的藝術創作。

Little Red Pills

Red. A pill immediately comes into my mind. The

pill for happiness. Tedious life is the price for

“happiness”. If there is shortcut to “happiness”,

will we have a better life? Or life should comprise

the values of various emotions. Over-flooding

happiness could also be a kind of depression.

紅。在我腦海裡立時浮現了一顆藥丸，一顆吃了後令人快樂的藥丸。

營役的生活是換取「快樂」的代價。若有更快捷的方法得到快樂，我們會否過得更美

好？或生活應該包含不同情緒的價值。溢滿快樂的生活也是一種失落。

Addis Fung Graduated in 2008, worked a bit and continue to float around the

cultural field. Hope to have insistence in life. Interested in everything about

art and culture, at the same time, a “multiple loss youth” failed in study.

Addis Fung 2008年畢業後，試了一些工作和繼續在藝術相關的活動裡

Members of red as well as audience will be invited to generate the idea of Red using

the materials in the previous workshop. Through the re-exploration on meaning, an

artwork will be created on-site, symbolizing the on-going discovery of the project.

Valentines’ is of course having a close relation with Red. On 14 Feb, we will have a

sound performance, inviting students and performance groups to explore their

idea on valentines through music.

Members from the Hong Kong International School Art Club will be bringing their

unique connections and impressions of the color red through impromptu painting.

It is a synthetic and hybrid creation with no end, but continuous re-interpretation.

紅的參與者及觀眾將被邀請，用過往於工作坊出現的物件，去創造 “紅”

的延伸。一組新的作品將透過重新探索紅的定義而誕生，也標誌著此計劃

不斷演變的精神。

情人節和紅有著不可分割的關係。2月14日，我們將邀請學生及不同表演團

體，用音樂來描繪情人節。

香港國際學校藝術學會的成員將透過即興彩

繪表現他們對紅的印象。這是一個沒有完結

的混合創作，以重新發現而不斷延續。
