Blue Ribbon Restaurants Contractor: Sanders & Wohrman Products: Rapid Set ® Cement All ® , SET Control ® , TRU ® Self-Leveling, TXP ™ Fast Epoxy Primer Blue Ribbon Sushi Bar & Grill at the Grove Shopping Center in Los Angeles is the restaurant chain’s first California location. Build-out for the restaurant called for integrally colored concrete flooring. The contractor first patched the substrate with Cement All ® before performing surface prep. To prevent pinholes and create a strong adhesive grip for the topping, the crew applied TXP ™ Fast Epoxy Primer by squeegee and back-rolled to achieve a uniform thickness of 12 mils. Next, the crew mixed TRU ® Self-Leveling via Hippo mixers and added a custom integral color. Although work was performed indoors, the average temperature throughout the project hovered around 80 degrees Fahrenheit. To ensure the material would not set too fast in the heat, the contractor also added SET Control ® to the mix. The additive slows down the hardening of cement, giving crews more time to place and finish the mortar. They placed the TRU topping at 3/8-inch thick and finished with a spiked roller to release any trapped air and provide a smooth, level surface. Polishing began the next day, with the crew using a proprietary concrete floor polishing system and a 27-inch high-speed burnisher.
