Instructional Materials Overview

I will be doing my capstone on an After School Program. The capstone will consist of Bringing Technology into an After School Program. The group of learners will be K- 6th graders. The materials I will be using are: Computers, smart boards, paper, pencils, markers and slides. I will be doing a power point presentation. The power point will teach the children how use and navigate the computer.

It will also introduce them the key terms to looking up information on the internet. I will be using the computer to project the screen to show the power point presentation. The power point will be shown on a smart board. A smart board is a line of interactive whiteboards that uses touch detection for user input in the same way as normal PC input devices. The paper and pencils along with the slide handouts will be used to take the notes for future use. The markers will be used to write on the smart boards.

Even though the presentation will be for the whole group there will be times where they will have time on the computer by themselves. The group presentation is to test the learners to see where they stand far as computer knowledge. After the pretest, the learners will be broken up into groups far as computer knowledge, that’s where the self pace learners will come in at. The self pace learners will have some time to work on things they need extra help with. There will also be self paced learners that will help the others who need that extra help.

The learners will be given an activity where they will use their materials to draw and write a story. The learners will use the paper, pencil and markers to draw a sketch of what they want their drawing to look like and then they will use the computer to navigate to type out their story and copy and paste a picture according to their drawing. Doing these things will help the learners learn how to type on the computer and surf the web.
