Project Objectives
Upgrading Network
Implementing Online Donation System
Developing Shelter Security
Recommending Software Package
Active Directory Users can move between PC’s without losing
access to their files. Sensitive files and folders can be hidden from
those who do not need access. Computers can be secured against intentional and
accidental alteration. Active Directory is a framework for a future
deployment of Exchange and Outlook when practical.
Active Directory allows coordination of additional services such as Symantec Antivirus.
Changes to Expect Users will now always have to use a password to
access a machine. Special accounts can be set up for lab use.
In order to ensure consistency and reliability, user data will be transferred to the server and all computers will be reprogrammed.
Team members will assist users with the transition.
After the upgrade, individual users will not be able to install software. Supervisors will have the ability to do this at their discretion.
Website ComparisonCurrent Website
New Website
Website Additions Photos to create an emotional connection. A dual menu bar for website navigation. Simplified style for less page clutter. Used Kompozer software for easier updates. Expanded website content.
Website Plans
Add flash presentation to home page. Include YouTube video links. Add more colorful logo. Link to a volunteer blog. Add donation button through PayPal.
Website Recommendations
To be more interactive, need to use Adobe Flash.
To make updates easier, need to train a shelter staff member in update protocol.
To improve communication, staff should write material about shelter.
Security Center Implement photo ID badge system
and print center. Badges have ID numbers, photo ID,
and barcode for barcode scanner. By December, have badges for staff
and volunteers. Database to keep track of arrival
times and unique ID number. Set up new monitoring station.
