Description:Business card for a company, using original logo

    Programs Used:Adobe llustrator, Adobe InDesign

    Date:November 8, 2014

    Course:Comm 140 Section 01

    Instructor:Cory Kerr

Objectives:Design a new logo and create a business card with a consistent

    layout and design.

    Process:

Weaver Beaver is a business that sells hand-weaved bracelets, watches, belts,

and survival bands out of paracord. Leland, the owner, is Canadian, so I used a

beaver as the logo, as it is a national symbol of Canada. Leland sells mostly to

hikers and outdoor enthusiasts, so the design is organic and earthy.

I used the shape builder tool in Illustrator to create the beaver and a dierent

brush for the dot on the i in weaving. In inDesign I decided to split the logo

apart for the business card (using ungroup) and put the beaver on the back

    with the contact information.

Objectives:Design a new logo and create stationery with a consistent layout

    and design

    Process:

After I had my logo and design concept, I used inDesign to create theletterhead. I used an o-white box for the background. The ragged brown

lines were made with a special brush and I used the same green circle in my

logo with a decreased opacity for the watermark. I repeated the same dot in

Lelands name to carry the same theme throughout.

Description:A montage with a spiritual theme using multiple images blended

    together

    Programs Used:Adobe Photoshop

    Date:October 24, 2014

    Course:Comm140 Section 01

    Instructor:Cory Kerr

Objectives: Learn how to use photoshop layers. Create a unied image frommultiple images by using lters and editing techniques.

    Process:

I wanted to visually convey the contrast between lightly holding to the world, which is dark and gloomy, and tightly holding to the things of heaven, whichare light, airy, and bright. I used the magnetic lasso tool to select around the

parts of the earth, cloud, and st images that I wanted and rened the edges

(softened, feathered, and reduced the radius) to create softer edges that

would blend better in the nal design. I also reduced the opacity of the earth

and st images to fade into the background and used the blur tool to blur theclouds into the black background. I created a mask on the earth image and

adjusted the hue to match the color in the sunburst and st image. Finally,

I used the eye-drop tool to match the beige of lightly and the black oftightly to the images in the design.

Objectives: Create images and logos from scratch using Illustrator tools

    Process:

One Raindrop Foundation raises money to build wells in Africa, so every

person who donates adds another raindrop to the ocean. I used the pen

and shape builder tool to create waves for the rst logo. Using the pen tool, Icreated the same raindrop I used for all three designs. I also used the pen andshape builder tools to create the hands in the second design.

    Description: A two-sided folding brochure

Programs Used: Adobe InDesign, Adobe Illustrator, Adobe Photoshop

    Date: December7, 2014

    Course:Comm 140 Section 01

    Instructor:Cory Kerr

Objectives:Learn to put together a folding duplex brochure and print so

    everything lines up properly

    Process:

After doing some research on Susan G. Komen to get a feel for the nature

and design of the organization, I created a layout in InDesign using rulersand guides, with dierent shades of boxes with labels to show the general

layout. I then created my logo in Illustrator, using the shape builder and pen

tool to create the race ribbon. I split the logo into parts so I could use them

for dierent areas of my brochure. I then placed all the images and the logo

parts into my inDesign mockup, using shapes and the eyedropper tool to getconsistent colors throughout.

Description:Webpage designed to showcase an original logo

    Programs Used:TextWrangler, Adobe Photoshop

    Date: November22, 2014

    Course:Comm 140 Section 01

    Instructor:Cory Kerr

Objectives: Learn HTML and CSS basics

    Process:

I created the basic webpage with HTML in Textwrangler (using a logo I hadpreviously made) with dierent headers and an unordered list. To validate

the code, I used http://www.W3.org HTML validator to make sure everything

worked right. I then connected a pre-made CSS document to my HTML to

work with the fonts, colors, backgrounds, and other visual aspects of the page.

I opened my logo in photoshop to nd its color codes using the eyedroppertool. I also changed the border size and increased the padding in some areas

to allow for good proximity and alignment.

    Course:Comm 140 Section 01

    Instructor: Cory Kerr

Objectives:Learn to scan quality images. Create quality designs in MicrosoftWord.

    Process:

I brainstormed message ideas that would motivate Cardston residents to

show up to vote at their plebiscite. After gaining some ideas from my designle, I created several sketches of possible ideas. My favorite sketch was made

in Word, using an image I had scanned. I used tracking and kerning to get the

type to follow the line of the chickens beak and the eyedropper to match the

    type color to the image.

Description:Photodesign with color scheme and original photography

    Programs Used: Adobe Photoshop

    Date: October17, 2014

    Course:Comm 140 Section 01

    Instructor:Cory Kerr

Objectives: Learn basic photography and photo editing skills. Choose a color

scheme to go with a photo and create a design in photoshop.

    Process :

I decided on a split complementary color scheme, using the green and rustybrick from my photo and a purple, and then edited the photo in photoshop to

pull out the colors I wanted. I wanted to portray the Liu Xiobo quote visually

and show how hatred and enmity have the power to corrode and poison a

nation. I decided to create a sort of American ag with my picture and quotes.

I repeated the diagonal lines throughout and balanced the purple splashes ofcolor diagonally to create ow through the design. I also worked to keep the

busyness of the design in the upper two-thirds of the design and maintain a

    good amount of negative space.
