MEET THE OWNER

I’ve been sewing for almost my entire life. I still remember my first few projects: a red jumper with brightly colored hang ten feet all over it and a short yellow dress with bright flowers and ric-rac.

The dress had an opening in the front with matching shorts peeking through. I always made matching shorts so I could swing on the bars on the playground in my elementary days. I made samples, prom dresses and calico bi-kinis in high school as an assistant manag-er at House of Fabrics in Carlsbad CA. Then came quilts, nursery and home décor, and Easter outfits for my babies, Sean and Hannah. One of the greatest projects was designing and mak-ing my own wedding dress! A few years ago our family had some rough times and much sad-ness. Sewing and quilt-ing were my safe haven.

I was so tired some days that all I could do was look at my bright and happy fabric stash-es, regroup them and plan their futures…it was enough to lift my spirits. I missed the days of teaching folk art painting and quilting. I began to realize that it was time to return to my dream and passion of owning a fabric store and teaching others the art of sewing. The day has arrived and this high school math teacher is going rogue to open Needle in a Fabric Stash, a mod-ern fabric store with a sewing studio. This would not be pos-sible without my friends and family and even new friends stepping

in with amazing support. Hannah, my daughter who I taught to sew, will handle my social me-dia…Go Mustangs! Sean, my son, showed me that change that looks impossible can happen. Thank you Sean for reminding me often that it was going to be my turn soon to real-ize my dream. Neil, my husband, is so enthusiastic and sup-portive. I’ve never seen anyone so eager to put in a new floor. My 91 year old father-n-law (I call him Steady Eddie) asks every time we talk to him “how can I help?” I’m so blessed to have such a great fa-ther-in-law. The grand opening on November 8th was a huge success. My fam-ily and I were learning as we went but enjoyed every minute of it. The store was packed for hours with people who appeared to be as pas-sionate as I am about fabric! Here’s to a new ad-venture! I hope my store, classes and bright, fun, trendy fabrics get the chance to make you happy too.

The love quilt class will be a great Christmas gift, baby quilt,

or, a lap size quilt.

Just in time for the holidays this festive Christmas topper is

perfect for a center piece.

This pocket pillow is completly customiazable to match any room or bedding in your home

Recently, as I sat down to create the sample for the be-ginner 9 patch quilt, I began to pull from my own stash as

I anxiously awaited for the fabric to arrive for the Grand Opening. It is important for beginners to challenge themselves to choose and coordinate their own fabric. Sewing is all about express-ing who you are and today was a day of inspiration! I was working on anoth-er sewing sample and found myself daydreaming while listening to Fleetwood Mac and Cat Stevens. Instantly, I traveled back to my high school days spent on Cher-ry Street Beach in Carls-bad and Moonlight Beach

in Encinitas. I just love how a song, or a smell, or cer-tain type of weather can make memories come alive. I gathered up Tula Pink’s Seaweed Colorway out of Salt Water by and began to create. I cannot wait to see what others taking the class will choose for their fabrics upon their moment of inspiration. I like to put my own signature on a collection of fabric by utilizing my fabric stash and adding in a surprise or two if I can! What are rules if they weren’t meant to be broken?
